[Far Cry 3] Error: Insufficient Access Privileges

Hello last Friday I bought "Far Cry 3" through Steam.

I have been getting the error message:
"You do not have sufficient access privileges to run the game. Please contact your administrator."

Since then I have been trying to fix this issue several hours everyday, opened a support ticket with both Ubisoft and Steam. However no matter what I have done the error is still the same.

    I have tried to:

    • Run the game as "hidden administrator".
    • Given ownership of "C:" to myself.
    • Changed Steam.exe, farcry3.exe, farcry3_d3d11.exe, Uplay.exe and UbisoftGameLauncher.exe to "Run as administrator" for every user.
    • I have given "Full Control" to "Everyone, SYSTEM, Users (MyComputerName\users) and Administrator (MyComputerName\Administrators)" in the Steam and Ubisoft folders.
    • I let Steam, Uplay and Far Cry 3 through the HIPS function (eset nod32).
    • I always have UAC turned off.
    • I have tried to disable my anti virus.

Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

I could try, however looking at the date of the posts it seems they are speaking of Far Cry 2.
I will try it anyway, might help fix the issue for Far Cry 3 too.

    Thanks

    - Do you have Steam running?
    - Are you a system administrator?
    - Do you have proper permissions? - See Steps 14, and 11 here as these may apply to your issue: Tips on Troubleshooting Game Issues

This particularly. Your account is not a standard account is it?

Ordinarily, you do not need to do ANY of the above you've mentioned. Occasionally, running steam as a admin to 'register' a game is required.

Have you at least tried re-installing steam? (Back up your Library First)

Do you have any other steam games with issues?

Hello Patrick, how are you? Haven't heard from you in a while :)

Anyway you are right, and I agree. However, I've personally experience a "strange" issue when a game wouldn't run because of a "parental lock" issue. Huh? I'm the Admin, yet there it was... which is why I added the Parental Control link in step 14 of my guide

Here's the original issue which lead to the note - Windows Parental Control issue???

Do note however that I have my main steam directory on a different drive (games) so it may have been a permission issue between my games drive and my newly reformatted OS drive at the time.

Point is, it "could" happen. On the flip side if everything is on the OS drive, than yeah, you really shouldn't have permission issues unless you aren't the admin.

I do not have any other users on my computer. The only time I had to select an account was when I had "hidden administrator" enabled. So I don't think this is the issue.

I have to run Fary Cry 3 through Steam so Uplay will be launched in Steam Mode for the game to show up in the Uplay launcher.

I have enabled full control for everyone in both the Steam folder and the Ubisoft folder.

    Anything else?

OK, I'm a little confused as to whether you require Steam for the game or not? And what an how Uplay works in conjunction with Steam?

Basically is Far Cry 3 a steam based game, and if so, why do you need Uplay? This is new to me as I've never heard of Uplay. Perhaps someone who has the game can provide better answers to your issues.

Anyway I found this article about Far Cry 3 and Uplay: Far Cry 3 PC: Uplay causing server issues, Reddit offers solution | VG247

Ubisoft came with a new launcher similar to steam, for ubisoft games. You have to launch the games through Uplay. However when you buy a game from Steam, Ubisoft requires you to start the game in Steam, which then loads Uplay.

If you try to run Uplay without going through Steam, the games bought on Steam won't show up in your game library.

Here is the part of the Uplay Launcher log that seems to be the issue:

2013-01-18 18:33:56 [ 4008] ERROR inject_impl_steam.cpp (186) start injector relied on 3rd party hook but apparently it was not active
    2013-01-18 18:34:07 [ 1812] INFO GameKeeperImpl.cpp (236) Product id '101' all processes terminated
