is this a good processor for gaming

It will, I have one PC with an AMD Fx 4100 and there's nothing it won't run so far. I do keep my games library up to date. Crysis and Crysis 2 even with the high res. pack will be no problem at all. My father in law has all the latest Battlefied games and runs with the same CPU. Of course the amount of Ram you have and speed of drives, graphics set up etc; will make an impact on performance.

Windows 7 Home premium 64bit SP1

Yes that's more then enough for games, I have a althon ii 640 x4 that i clocked up to 3.6 that runs modern games fine and that cpu is newer technology and has l3 cache unlike mine which is only l1 and l2 but still runs fine for me at decent fps in 1080p with my 6870.
