I had a 6870 in my last system. You should be able to run most recent games at or near 'Ultra' settings with that. I'd replace the 650 for sure though. Good call on that.

If you're modding Skyrim or looking to play Farcry 3 or something, you'll have to dial it back a bit. However, you're still looking at a vast improvement over anything the consoles can dish out.

A 500w power supply isn't enough. It'll be running full bore all the time with a 6870. You need a PSU that can handle the load. I'd go 650+w with a 6870 rig myself. At least 650.

Processor and GPU is sufficient, Ram unknown though.

That can be an issue and I'd suggest looking into what you're getting, and what your motherboard, cpu cooling, and processor can handle, and go with the best available option if you want to get the most out of games with it.

Most pre-built machines will lowball you on the ram side of things and go with the lowest available option if they can get away with it. Ram is very important for games, though you don't really need more than 4gb for any modern games, frequency matters. You want the best possible matchup between the CPU Bus speed and Ram Frequency. [I'd personally go with 8gb of Ram with the system you've built, but you don't currently need it for any games I know of.]

If you really want to get the most out of gaming, make sure you're getting decent Ram with the system. The rest sounds solid, but having low end Ram can drag both GPU and CPU performance down.

I only posted in a 'solved' because there was no mention of Ram in the specs given, and that's almost as important to a gaming rig as CPU and GPU processing power is. It can make a huge performance difference. Also the PSU isn't good enough on this setup. You need more, a 500w might run it, but it'll be going full bore all the time and burn out eventually. You need a little more, I'd go 750w myself, but 650 would be enough.
