Hello, not sure if this has happened before but i have an alienware m15x laptop with windows 7 (i think its 64 bit) I really want to play both the aoe 2s the original works fine but the conquerors once installed and i load it up just pops up saying aoe 2 expansion has stopped working windows is checking for a solution to the problem, i really want to play this game so any help is much appreciated :)
Welcome, medievalman. Have you had any of the graphics troubles most of us have seen with AOEII?
no tbh my aoe 2 works fine and the graphics seem normal i dont know why it wont let me play the conquerors then :/
how do you change to compatibility mode?
Right-Click on the shortcut, left-click "Properties", then look for the Compatibility tab. You might go down the line backwards in time starting with Vista until you get one which (hopefully) works. Since the expansion pack came out right at the time WinXP was hitting the shelves, that might be a good bet.

my conquerors works fine. It gave me problems in the past but then I stopped playing it for a year or two. Tried it a month ago and it works magically.
since lots have age of problems ill try find out an answer for mine..
ok the empires.exe didnt work once i found the explorer.exe stopping way n it worked fine..
now the problem i have got Conquerorsthe game runs ok, then u pick a type of scenario n click start..
here what we go the game crashes after u get the a new game starting..
tried all the suggestions nothing changed still crashes..
arg.. ok whoever needs it since i found run SETUPREG.EXE and it works fine..
Going to this thread Windows 7/Vista Color Fix and following the advice at the very bottom of the registry worked for me. Involves no programs, no closing explorer and restarting explorer. Adding this to your registry and you can play with no color issues and you can alt tab out of the game during play and back in again with no issues. At least no issues I for me so far.
