Anyway i got another problem now , we're on hamachi with friend that have a notebook with winxp 32 and when he host the game i can see it but i can't connect , and when i create the game he can't see mee ...

( tryied : FW off , Compatibility modes and Run as Administrator ) help pls

    Hi, same problem with aoe2.

I have an hp pavilion dv7 3020es laptop, ati mobility radeon hd 4530.
Working with laptop's monitor, the problem of strange colors happens in all resolutions.

Working with an external monitor, it works fine on 1024*768 but have same problem with 1280*1024 (his standard resolution)

The solution of cancelling explorer.exe process worked. Thanks for the solution

    it works, dont ask why.

I havnt been able to solve the issue, but a work around is:

1.Change desktop theme to windows classic and then,
    2.Open the screen resolution window
    3.Then load AoE

    (saves closing explorer.exe)

For some reason this removes the 'red grass effect', if it doesnt first up, once in a game, simply tab out and back in. Both steps must be completed for me. Simply bringing the resolution up doesnt help.

    Enjoy.

Its quite annoying that the only way that seems to resolve this is by doing the end explorer task. I have another issue, It will only allow me to play the game in 1024 by 764, the 1280 by 1024 is greyed out. This is rather annoying. Upon checking my resoultion in my laptops settings, the max i can select is 1440 by 900. As "by 900" is the largest i can select, is this what is stopping me from selecting this resolution in aoe ? The only thing that gets to me if this is the case, I was able to play it in this resolution when I had Vista installed. Please help, I may have to go XP if cant get these things sorted.

I still like to play the original Ages of Empires.(after adding the expansion pack)

I had corruption of the seas and I tried the various options in the Compatibility tab to no avail. I tried out morfeu's batch file solution, after substituting the correct executable.(empiresx.exe, in my case) It works although the game starts minimized.

As he said all icons and bars go away, you are left w/ a blank screen and the tag button for AOE. You click on the button and select Restore, then the game starts. When I exit the game, the desktop is restored quite nicely.

    KUDOS, morfeu!!!

If anyone has a suggestion on keeping the game from starting out in minimized mode, I would be thankful.
