    Strange issues with Steam?

Anyone had/having strange issues with Steam?

The last few days I've been having issues with Steam. First it was running slow - you'd open it, and it would hesitate. Then lately, it would just quit itself, I always have Steam start up with my PC, then there was this 100MB download, after that, every time I restart my PC I would get an updating Steam notification box. Finally I uninstalled, then reinstalled... got a notification this was the first time using this PC, which it wasn't. And, to my horror, I get have to reinstall ALL my Steam games... lot's of gigabytes worth of games

I've been using Steam since release and this is the first time having any sort of issues like these. Hope my account wasn't hacked

Anyway has anyone been having strange issue like those described above?

    Thanks

If you try running a game from it's exec and not the URL shortcut, it should work ok. Yes it may well do a first run DX setup and stuff but otherwise may be ok.

Also, generally where ever you install steam is where the steamapps folder is located.
I've reinstalled my sons windows several times. We have never once had to reinstall games, because we make sure we install steam in the same location.

After logging into steam we have to verify the cache for each game, but that is a lot quicker than having to download them all again.

If steam is installed somewhere else, or you move or delete your steam folder then yes, you will have to reinstall all the games, unless you have a backup.

By default steam installs in c:\program files (x86)\steam.
Under that is steamapps. The games are stored locally on your computer (hacking your account would not remove the games).

Underneath the steamapps folders are all your games.

Check in there to see what's there....

    Perhaps this might also help..

I am pretty sure sygnus21 understands the ins and outs of Steam, just seeing if anyone else is having issues with it.

Ever since the last big update, I have been having sporadic issues which include Steam closing itself and not wanting to even start up at all (having to restart computer to fix), games just stopping with no error and a weird bug with the friends chatting system. I open up a chat window with a particular friend, and it shows the entire previous chat session. It is all greyed out but still there, weird.

Steam would go nuts sometimes, I think it's not normal anymore. Removing clientregistry.blob always finishes my problem.

Thank you Squid, you are correct :)

Anyway, yeah, that's what I was asking about, and it's good (well, not so good for us) to see I'm not the only one experiencing these strange issues. I'll have to check out the Steam forums and see if anyone else is complaining of the same.

BTW what the hell was that "update" because even after reinstalling Steam last night, I still get a Steam is updating notification box when Windows starts up. Seems ever since that update, Steam has gone crazy

I appreciate everyone's help and suggestions. I guess I should have stated that I am familiar with Steam. I just needed to know if anyone else was seeing the same issues I'm seeing. Seems Steam's update is/was causing some weird stuff.

    Thanks.
