    GTA San Andreas mouse problem

Mouse works on menu, up and down, have to use "enter" to click on anything...once in game...nothing...no rotation of the cam...no right or left click...for that extra annoyance factor it will work on occasion...say less than 1% of the time...

Legal windows ultimate...legal game...version 2.0...dvd in drive...no cracks or mods...installed to default location...game works loads....plays fine on rare occasion mouse works...

    Tried
    win 98 me compat mode
    xp compat mode
install in 98 me mode plus xp
    wireless usb mouse
    wired usb mouse
    p/s2 ball mouse
    run sfc scan
    update drivers
set mouse hardware acc to low
windows batch file to start gta in low priority /single cpu core
    run as admin [shortcut]
set game to run as admin
back and forth between programs and background services
    google

I did have it working...until I tried a repair install to fix freecell.......worked with all the same hardware...even the wireless mouse...

    Any thoughts?

Per chance do you have a on board sound?/or realtec sound drivers?....some claim that causes the mouse problem...I just don't want to buy a sound card unless that is the solution+ if your not real careful you might end up with the same company's card under another name....I do know my sound and usb share IRQ 16 but I don't know how to move one under Windows 7.

by the time Alt Tab works for me I've forgot who Carl J................What were we doing?:)

I found this artical . It's for vista, but it would probably work on 7 as well. Try it out, and let me know. I had a weird hankering to play this one the other day. Might dust it off, and start some gang wars lol

Already found and tried that...no love for me...however as far as San An goes{if your spec's are up to date} it would see about the same system as mine...big difference being the sound/even better you have a sound blaster a possible cure......

I use an Alienware, n quite sure that themouse problem is not because of the sound card or the driver as i tried the same system with the OS as XP n it worked very fine.. Some say it has something to do the multiple cores..

Thnx Ivan, But i found another way.. Just start the game and then go to the task manager and then set the affinity to any one core which is the least used.. Mouse will working then, without any further trouble..

Tried setting affinity to a single core...no mouse...killing ipoint and running in 98 mode, mouse works every time....running on all 4 cores no problems...at least for me....

    Just a suggestion but....

Do you have a wired xbox 360 controller? Or a similar game pad for that matter. It works out of the box with windows 7. There are a few 3rd party configuration programs that hot key the keyboard/mouse to the controller for older games, that dont have gamepad support. Not for nothing, but using such a program, may inadvertently 'fix' your mouse issues with the game. It's worth a shot.

Joy 2 Key is a freeware. Pretty limited though, according to the description.
(not my first choice.... may work, I have never actually used it.)

Xpadder is a easy to use freeware app. Has a decent fan-base. Plays well with most

Pinnacle Game Profiler is a more advanced, feature rich program. Costs $, but has a 30 trial. Works with 360, ps3, Wii, and most generic controllers. HIGHLY recommended.
(best $20 I've ever spent on software, let me tell ya)
