Who's Porting Who... Pc vs Xbox vs PS

We all know that more and more PC games, and not just shooter, were being ported from console games... some more atrocious than others.

Now, with the PS4 and Xbox720 on the horizon, do you think game devs will go back to making games on the PC and then porting them to the consoles? I don't know much about consoles nor do I really care but, the little I have heard is they will be similar to PCs

It would make more sense. From they sounds of it, easier to do as well since both the Xbox and PS4 will be quite similar to PC.
We should start seeing some better looking games all around.

Some developers have stated that just recently. Ubisoft was one I heard about......saying that they are going to code for PC, and port to consoles. It is absolutely ridiculous to do it the other way around because if they code for PC FIRST, porting it for consoles won't actually affect their gaming experience. Coding for consoles and then porting to a PC does. You can code for PC and dumb it down easy enough to port over.........it's not "backwards compatible" the other way.

Also, the PS4 is now using an x86 based processor.......and that should help quite a bit when making a game "cross-platform" ready.

I'm not holding my fingers crossed.

Only Valve still cares about making proper PC games.

Talking about "Dumbing Down", we also have seen this decay in the past years or so, if the rumor is true (games made on PC and then ported)... does that mean we will be able to see more tactical games (read less run & gun, being grabbed by the hand and told when to shoot and what button to use to do it?) or this will not change?

To me, the porting sucks but the dumbing down sucks even more.

I think most devs are going to go with what makes the most money regardless of platform.
If that means a dumbed down run and gun that has 3 MP maps and a 3hr SP for $100, thats what theyll do because people are paying for it.

Its sad. The gamers that are looking for depth, challenge and such are few compared to those who want simple instant gratification. And devs wont make as much money from the few.

I mean I agree about the dumbing down.
I always found part of the fun was working out how to proceed, or working hard to accomplish a goal. You felt as if you earned something. Heck I can even remeber playing for an hour or so on some games just trying to figure out how to open a locked door, gain access to something, or aquire an item etc.
Many games now are follow a waypoint and click the huge flashing arrow till the end. It seems most (not all) of the newer generation wants results now without having to think much about it or putting in much effort to get it. Its how they like to play thier games.

I guess all I mean is regardless how good the future games will look and run cross platform will not change the trend we are seeing.

My main issue I've had with adventure/RPG/action games is that -now- the only thing that prevents you from proceeding in the storyline is killing. That is horrible to me.

Remember tomb raider when most of the frustration was about not being able to make that big jump?
Yeah, you don't see that anymore. In assassins creed it's IMPOSSIBLE to miss a step and break you damn kisser. The dude always clears every single jump.

When you start with a game coded for a PC, it sets the bar pretty high. Even a dumbed down version of that will be better than what we've previously seen.

Yep. this is what I meant by taking forever just to figure out how to open a door because of falling to your death and trying to find alternate paths. Or seeing something in the distance and thinking how do I get way up there.
Fun times. And looking back there wasnt really much shooting overall. It was mainly exploration, and was still challenging. Of course it didnt hold your hand. You were on your own.
