I'm not at home now to check, but my rig runs it just fine. Perhaps you can navigate to the install folder and set the privledges for the actual game by using the properties on the Sabateur exe file. I also load my game using the icon in the games folder (using the link in the start menu for games) without having origin running.
Update: some time in May this has now happened to my version of the Saboteur I have tried uninstalling the game (using Revo Uninstaller) to clear everything out and re-downloading. I get the same as the OP... The start-up screen immediately opens and I can set game options, but cannot play the game. Tried running the exe as admin, tried compatibility with XP and Vista and nothing. I am suspecting some sort of problem in a hidden cache that EA or the Origin client has installed, but I'm too afraid to mess around with their files.
Hey - I know this is really old now but I've just gone back to play it again and encountered this error. For it to launch for me I had to open origin, then rather than launch the game in origin go to where the game is downloaded to and launch the game .exe as admin (not the game launcher). This seemed to get around the error I had

Solved for me at least... The Saboteur does NOT like any more than 4 cores on a cpu. Since I have a hex-core i7-3930K, I had to go into the bios settings and limit the CPU to 4 cores. I tested with just 4 cores and 4 cores in hyperthreading (4C/8T) and it WORKED just fine. Sadly, I will have to change the bios cpu core setting limit to 4 every time I want to play this game and then set it back to 6 cores for faster authoring of HD video and Blu-ray .
I do not have an hex or octo core AMD CPU to test this with.
Summary: Limit CPU to 4 cores with or without HT = Saboteur works.
