You shouldn't need to use overdrive for C2 at maximum settings with a 7970.

Yeah, when it was released it was a system pusher, but a 7970 should be able to run Crysis 3 at high settings with only a bit of effort. [Note I didn't say 'maxed out'.]

C2 is pretty old, and a 7970 3gb should be able to handle it easily without Overdrive. I'd be keeping my eye on CPUID to monitor the card. [It's a free DL, google it.] I'd also be planning to upgrade or replace the card if things don't improve.

You shouldn't be having difficulty running a game that old on a 7970 card. It should be running smooth as butter.

I've got three of them in xfire and I turn it off and disable overdrive if I'm running anything as old as C2 so I'm only using 1 card at stock settings. I get 60+ fps easily in C2 with no hickups at all.

If you've got it running, great, but I'd be keeping an eye on things. You seriously shouldn't be having any problem running Crysis 2 on a 7970 that isn't OCed at all. If you're having issues running a game that old on hardware that powerful, something is up.

Couldn't say what, but I'd be suspicious and start monitoring my system and planning ahead just in case I had to replace my card.

If you look at my system specs I'm running Crysis 2 all maxed out with a 6950 bios modded to a 6970 so if you have a 7970, you should be flying. Now as I progress later in the game, with more and more AI, I'm sure the system will bog down, but so far the only areas it's bogs believe it or not, is in tunnels. Don't understand that one

Anyway I would suggest turning off at least shadows to see if the game performance improves. Shadows is the biggest performance killer in any game and is always the first thing I disable in game settings. Incidentally I have it on right now, but will be turning it off, perhaps this will improve my "tunnel" experience.

    Good luck.

So I'm guessing you weren't "impressed" by this...

Not that I have done any research but I have often wondered why so many SVhosts on my resources as well.

Perhaps your video/audio drivers got corrupted somehow when you installed C2? being that it doesn't take long to install, I would do a clean install of both drivers and test again.
He didn't spell out the abc's, but... :)

yeah, there is a huge difference between a clean install, and a proper install.

AMD systems like to brick an OS if you uninstall every driver supplied by AMD

Even with my sig rig, C2 bogs down occasionally with all bells and whistles.

    Doesn't c2 use Fxaa/msaa?

Drop a few of the settings and/or overclocking your card. It will help net you a few fps on the bottom end.

C2 usually bogs down at the beginning of each map... for me at least.

I only get bog downs in tunnels.

BTW does anybody know why this darn game can't seem to remember "Full Screen" settings. Every now and then when I exit and restart the game, it goes to "Windowed Mode". Quite annoying to have to keep changing the setting.

That has NEVER happened to me in any game... guess am Especial?

Not to get too off-topic but am I the only one who feels the Campaign was edited somehow throughout the whole game? One part in particular I remember is getting out of the building where the chair is, the spores are abound, some heavies get dropped, all of a sudden screen goes black and you appear somewhere or the part where you kill the Pinger and you have to get on the trucks with the Marines, you drive for about a block and boom, black screen... somewhere else now!
