    Good game recording software?

Does anyone know of a good program I could use to record gameplay, that won't murder my framerate? I'd prefer a program that has a free version at least so I can try it out. But anything that will record good without slaughtering FPS works for me.

FRAPS is used quite a lot for this sort of thing.

FRAPS show fps, record video game movies, screen capture software

They all make your framerate take a hit, fraps and afterburner seem to be the best.

Okay, small problem: Fraps only seems to record for about 30 seconds before it just shuts off for almost no reason.

I just tried afterburner, worked GREAT!

Now I have one tiny problem, compression. I heard you could use windows movie maker, but apparently my PC didn't come with that, and when I downloaded it and tried to install it from microsoft, it lagged my PC to all unholy levels. Anyone have any other trusted software I could use for compressing the video...?

Go through or google the compression settings in Afterburner, you can change it. I have only used it for fan control and monitoring so I'm not sure. Did you use this link to download?

    Handbrake (freeware):

    HandBrake

I paid for fraps, so no experience with the other product.

FRAPS will make obnoxiously huge .AVI files.

Handbrake will convert to MP4 or MKV your choice with Presets for various devices, I just use the Regular/Normal profile and yes the compression especially with Matroska (MKV) is good.
