    Mass Effect won't install

    Monday:
So I thought I'd give ME (first one) another whirl. Installed it and patched it as required. The game didn't want to work though, kept getting a 'ME has stopped and needs to shut down'.

    A few days pass...

    Today:
Revisited my previous thread on this topic here. Didn't seem relevant anymore since this time round everything was patched. Saw Sygnus21's link about installing with compatibilty mode set to Windows 7. Uninstalled game. Got warning that since I was not online it could not deregister the game. Continued uninstalling. Tried to reinstall using compatibility mode but just after I enter the license key I get this error:

So... what is the best way forward from here?

    Cheers

Never had this game so I am only guessing here... why do you need to be online to uninstall the game? is this because of Steam?

When you right click on the setup.exe and Run as Administrator... does it give you an option to Repair, Install new or Uninstall? if so, perhaps this is your best bet to fully uninstall the game.

Have you tried going to the game folder and look for an Uninstall option or did you go to Control Panel to uninstall?

    Sorry, more questions than answers.

Uninstalled via CP. Not using Steam.

If you didn't get it from Steam, try registering it through EA's log-in service and try patching it that way. Afterwards try running the game again.

I don't have the Steam based one, but the retail one which if I'm not mistaken, does use EA's log-in service (now Origin).

Give it a try and see what happens.

Looked at the site. Can't find anything regarding logging in so I will call their support service tomorrow. Cheers for the tip!

    +1 for you
