thanks everyone for your input , i will start my own thread, it's really really great to know i've got so people on here so eagor to help , i feel really positive about it , like some of the other posters i feel 'had' by microsoft i love my xbox 360 but there are so many things about the new xone that i hate the sound of like ..no used games, that horrid kinect , i have never had an interest in the kinect maybe if i had kiddies but i don't and if i wanted to jump around doing sports or dancing i'd go out and do it, i'm old fashioned like that but with the xone i have to buy the kinect even so i don't want it plus the kinect will be on all the time 'watching' the whole kinect thing sounds very skynet to me i feel like if i was to swear because i got killed in a game Arnie will jump out of the xone and say 'asta la vista baby ' . Other dislikes are is the xone isn't a game console any more it an entertainment centre but all the 'features' i will have to pay for xbox live gold, like at the moment if you pay for netflix you then have to pay again for xbox live gold to watch netflex on your xbox that's a rip off paying twice . As I said above paying a fee to microsoft the play a used game or even borrow a game off me friend just amazes me , when i heard the rumour i thought 'oh they won't do that ' but they did! ... well the list goes on it just annoys me to even write about it. Sooooo back on topic i suppose i would be looking at spending about the cost of the xbox one which i think will about £450 maybe £500 . I was just thinking is there a game out there at the moment that is like a bench mark game? what i mean is if my PC can play that it will play owt.
Just a quick note above i go as regards to @Contrabardus, i think the upgrade idea is a good idea and i was thinking of that myself, how would this do for starters or wouldn't it be any good for playing games http://www.amazon.co.uk/FX-4100-Gami...I15B8CNREIUDHF
or should i speand about £60 more and get http://www.amazon.co.uk/FX-6100-Gami...pr_product_top
    or even this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/FX-4170-Gami...m_cr_pr_sims_t
the trouble is to me they all look pretty much the same to me apart from one being 6core and the other two 4core.

Here's a great starter and unless you have money burning a hole in ALL your pockets... don't go looking at smarteyeball system specs or you'll go blind!
On the flipside, if building an ultra rig is your thing, go for it.

I'll be building another rig in the coming months and it'll be a high end, probably overkill, system. But, it's what I want. While it wont have multiple monitors, or quad cards, it'll nonetheless be high end.

That's what enthusiast custom building is all about - building the system you want.

As someone said earlier - "A UGM is pretty much just penis points for the truly hardcore like myself".

    So very true
penis points would be wasted on me
here's my new thread on the subject https://www.sevenforums.com/general-d...ml#post2422102

You want High end? check out mine just finished it a week ago. Sick of upgrading hardware every 1-2 yrs.It cost just over 8200 bucks. No upgrading for at least 3 maybe 4 yrs before software catches up. Over board? yes a little, but if you could only experience it WOW!!!

Anything that is bought for purposes other than typing and simple movie watching tasks- is most likely going to mid grade with most people budget in mind, especially if its a custom build.

I honestly cant imagine anyone "custom" building a Pentium 4 in 2013- so with that said any in their right mind and a minimum wage job can afford a operable pc.

    *however*
as asking what each individuals opinion of what defines a mid-grade to high end pc-

well.... obviously the high end would be i7x series lol >.<
    or anything over a i5 3k series.

i would consider my rig a mid-range pc

keep in mind not everyone uses their pc solely for gaming-

I figure that if a high end machine can handle games, it will handle virtually everything else.

Like most of us here I use my rig for everything. It's an editing machine, a browser, a torrenter, complete Home Entertainment etc.

If looked at from a percentage wise, time spent gaming is actually quite low comparatively.

Obviously if I needed more professional work grunt for CAD, Photoshop etc, you'd go X79. But for novice, semi pro usage etc, it does the job.

I've also held the belief that if it handles gaming well, it'll handle most anything else.

And I'm thinking it's a given we would be using our rig for more than just gaming. So yes, not everyone uses their high end rig for gaming... but it sure is enjoyable when we do :)

This is what I'm aiming for in my next build as I'll be doing quite a bit of Photoshop work as well. Though admittedly I just want a high end (or near high end) machine.

Your current rig can do that too. An X79 rig will just do it faster. Like has been said already, I use my rig for everything, but if it will play games well, there are very few other things it won't do.

Thank you!! Dude This works has gone on for almost 8 yrs now. Retiring at 34 from military leaves me a lot of time on hand.
Well time to do some more tinkering on the Beast (another idea to make reality) .

Being in the military does give a lot of money and time also (82nd ABN) though I'm not retired, but I still couldn't afford that rig lmao
