Windows 7: Naming for Lulz in older games.

Naming for Lulz in older games.

I got Final Fantasy 7 from Steam recently and it reminded me of a guilty pleasure I'd almost forgotten about in gaming. I got the most evil nostalgic smirk as soon as the first 'name your character' box popped up.

Who else misses being able to name all the characters yourself for many lulz?

Sure, some modern games let you 'name' your character, but then it's never really used again and you're given a title or something that everyone calls you for the rest of the game. Even when you can pick your own name, it's usually just your personal avatar and that's all. It's just not the same.

I want to rename Jessie, but sadly she's an NPC and can't be renamed. I want to call her 'Love Doll' because of how her mouth looks...

So, all you retro gamers. If you've got tales or screens of dialogue that was made hilarious because of how you chose to name your characters, feel free to post them.

It was a simpler time, and this is one of the things that fully voiced dialogue in games has made me miss the most. I wish more games would let you name characters anything you'd like.

Perhaps one day technology will allow us to do it again in games with voiced dialogue, but for now I'll just have to remember it fondly.
