Think again, happens on ATI and Intel gfx as well.ok well it has to be an nvidia issue.

I am having this issue. Both RCT 1 and 2 freeze in full screen mode after a bit. Sadly RCT2 doesn't support Windowed Mode like RCT1, because it doesn't crash in Windowed mode. There is a setting in the Nvidia Control Panel called Extension Limit. Here is the description. (Extension limit indicates whether the driver extension string has been trimmed for compatibility with particular applications. Some older applications cannot process long extension strings and will crash if extensions are unlimited.) I'm going to try playing the game with this setting on, and see if it fixes the problem.
That setting is strictly for opengl and only limits the amount of OpenGL extensions presented to applications.
Secondly it must be also combined with a HEX value which defines the extensions the limit will allow be delivered to the system.
Same thing is happening to me. System will just lock up.

CPU: Intel core 2 Duo 6400 2.13 ghz
RAM: 8GB DDR2 800 mhz
GFX: nVidia 9600 GT
OS: Windows 7 Pro x64
edit
I just tried something that might have helped, because it helped me in aoe. I don't know if it is helping for this. It could be nothing so don't get too excited. After I started the game I alt tabbed out of the game, started the task manager, went to the processes tab, and ended explorer.exe. Then I alt tabbed back into the game. I could play longer than I have before but I cant say for sure that it helped because it will lock up randomly. Maybe it didn't have a chance to lock up. It usually only takes about 10 minutes to lock up on me and I played for about 30 minutes so I am not sure. If someone could help test this that would be helpful. To restart explorer you will have to start the task manager click file, then new task and type in explorer.

I'm also having this problem and I've just tried linkjy's idea and it doesn't work, the game worked fine when I had Vista, but now I've upgraded to Win7 and now the game makes the entire computer lock up on me
This works >Windows 7 Starcraft Fix with Virtual PC 2007
Thanks, playing RCT2 again without any issues sounds great :)
I got Virtual PC working with Vista Home Premium installed, the problem now is that when I click on the file to start the game, nothing happens for about 10 mins except the mouse show it's loading then it stops loading, I tried it again with task manager open and I notice that RCT2.EXE closes after being open for 10 mins, but nothing else seems to be working right
I do know that RCT2 works on Vista, because I used to play it on my sis' laptop that has Vista when I was waiting for my computer to come in the mail
my virtual xp machine wont let me play it because of graphics issues, basically because the video isnt exclusive to virtual pc?
I've found something better than Virtual PC, it's called VirtualBox, once I get XP installed on a virtual PC, I'll reply back here to let everyone know if it works, this tool can let a Virtual PC have a maximum of 128 MB of video RAM
Update-
I have everything working correctly now on my VirtualBox, but another issue arose
Now whenever I play RCT2, I get wrong disc error and the the disc is there and the drive is checked where the disc is and I've even tried a iso of the game, it still give the same issue, please help
