Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 - Whole system freeze

    Hi Everyone!

I've been wanting to re-live this classic for a while now, but after running flawlessly on my Windows 7 x64 system it freezes, locking the entire system and requires a full restart (No BSOD, just entire system lock-up). I've researched everywhere and tried everything in my power to try and get this game to work without crashing (Compatibility mode, patches/addons etc) but to no avail. Other forums have said the game works fine on both 64 and 32 bit versions of Windows 7 so I'm wondering if it may be my hardware...

    Specs:
    MOBO: Gigabyte P965-S3
    GFX: nVidia 8800GTS 640mb
    RAM: 4GB/800Mhz DDR2
    CPU: Q6600 2.4Ghz
    OS: Windows 7 RC x64
    DUAL-MONITOR SETUP

I even tried emulating the game in a VM but it doesn't recognise the graphics card (Didn't expect to to on a VM...)

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys. :)

I dunno it works fine on my machine and I run it in Compat mode for Win98
Running Win7 RC x32 atm but it sounds like you do have some sort of hardware problem
Does it do this for any of your other games?

Everything else runs without a single problem - it's actually the first problem I've encountered in Windows 7. After a good 20 minutes the system just stops...I've also run it on this hardware before without problems. Would the 64 bit OS be doing anything to the game?

    Good possibility
Back when it was created there were no such things as Ghz processors much less Dual and Quad Core 64 bit machines
So that COULD be doing it
I know elsewhere on this forum people have trouble with games on either the 32bit Win7 or 64 Bit Win7 but mostly 64 Bit as so much doesn't really "Support" 64 bit it just works somewhat.

So I'd try it on some other OS if you got one on the computer and see if it halts there too, if so I'd consider Uninstalling it Reinstalling it via Compatibility mode.

try closing all background apps like skype, miranda, outlook, browsers etc.

starcraft freezes for me if I run skype / miranda / vlc or anything like that in the background - if I close all background programs there's not a single freeze.

I have been having similar issues also, having only noticed the issues since I installed skype.

I will try running the game with it out in future and see how that goes for me.
