GTA 4 Not using GPU properly Hello i just installed GTA 4 and i found it that it does not use the GPU properly
When i am inside a interior he uses like 30% of my GPU(Video card) and the game runs perfect but when i got outside a interior the game uses 0% of my GPU and 100% of my CPU....
This is causing a mayor lag to my game its olmost like the video card wants the CPU to do his calculations instead of letting his own GPU do the those calculations.
So is there a hotfix for this ??
PS When i play other games the GPU Works at 100% and the other games runs perfect (for example Assassins Creed)
So i don't think my GPU is malfunctioning.
I'm using a Q9400 @ 2,66 GHZ with a ATI HD RADEON 4890 with the newest Catalyst (ATI DRIVERS)
Thank you for your time and efford | My System Specs |

Its down to how the game was programmed, if I remember correctly GTA4 is a CPU heavy game. I agree with you about your GPU. It's not broken. You could try overclocking your CPU but that's another story for another day. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 64bit CPU Intel q6600 oc to 3.02 Motherboard Abit IX38 QuadGT Memory 4 GB PC2-8500C5 DDR2 XMS2 Corsair Dominator TwinX Ram Graphics Card Sapphire HD 5870 VAPOR-X 1GB Sound Card Asus Xonar Xense Monitor(s) Displays DELL ST2410 & Samsung 2233LW Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Logitech G15 Mouse Logitech G500 PSU Corsair 650 Case Antec Nine Hundred Cooling Freezer Pro Hard Drives 2 x Seagate Barracuda 500GB SATA-II 32MB Cache

So basicly GTA IV is a game that comepletely ignores GPU's so the game is only playable with a Core I7 ? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP OS Windows 7 Professional 64Bit CPU Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 Memory 4096 DDR 800MHZ Graphics Card Club3d ATI HD Radeon 4890 Monitor(s) Displays HP Compaq LA2205wg, Samsung SyncMaster 225MW Screen Resolution 2x 1680x1050 (3360x1050) Keyboard Some HP Keyboard Mouse Some Logitech Lasermouse Case DC7900 Convertble minitower Cooling The ones that come with the DC7900 Convertible minitowr Hard Drives 1TB, 2x 500GB, 250GB Internet Speed 20Mbit (2,5MB) |

Its playable on any system just poorly programed to use high powered GPUs. Manly you would have to cut down the settings instead of everything being on MAX at 1600x1400 run it at MED 1240x1020. The screen size is just an example you might have to play with it abit. I have always felt the PC version of GTA IV was a quick very poor console port, just to keep the PC fans happy. The only thing i can suggest is the cut the setting and make sure you have all the newest drivers loaded along with shutting down any other unneeded background task. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Build OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 CPU AMD Phenom II 1090 3.2 six core Motherboard MSI 890FXA-GD65 Memory 16 gig DDR3 Graphics Card MSI R6950 2gig Sound Card on board Monitor(s) Displays Acer 23inch led Screen Resolution 1900x1080 widescreen PSU CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX750 V2 750W Case CoolMaster HAF 922 Cooling Box AMD Heatsink/Fan Hard Drives Seagate 1tb SATA6

On just about every new game, my system plays it well enough and smooth. Usually on high or highest settings. GTAIV completely owns my system and runs at less than 10 fps. Poor coding for sure. I've seen places on the net that show you how to tweak rendering and that promise to up framerates while actually making the game look better. I haven't bothered. Google it and you may find what I have. I remember there was even a video about this on Youtube. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number self built OS 7600.20510 x86 CPU P4 550 3.4 GHz HT running at 3.5 GHz Motherboard MSI PM8M3-V (MS-7211 v1.x) Micro-ATX mainboard Memory OCZ 2 GB(2x1GB) DDR400mHz running @ 414 mHz Graphics Card HIS Radeon HD 3850 IceQ 3 Turbo HDMI Dual DL-DVI AGP Sound Card MOTU Traveler firewire studio interface 192 kHz 24 bit Monitor(s) Displays 22" widescreen Acer X223W LCD, 17" Compaq P75 CRT Screen Resolution 1680x1050 and 1280x1024 Keyboard Logitch Classical Keyboard 200 Mouse Logitech Mediaplay cordless PSU 350W generic Case Cybertronpc, it glows blue Cooling stock cpu fan, Ice-Q 3 gpu and system, many case fans Hard Drives SATA I x2 WD, 400 GB and 120 GB, SATA 2 WD Caviar Black 1 TB Internet Speed 1792/448 kbits/sec Other Info SATA II PCI fake RAID adapter, 1 GB Readyboost, original ATI Remote Wonder (even works with WMC perfectly), Logitech Rumblepad 2 game controller x2 GTA 4 Not using GPU properly problems?
