Anyone having download issues with Steam?

As I've said many times, I've never had issue with Steam, but lately, mainly this year, Steam seems to be acting strange. It may be a patching scheme or something

Anyhow I've recently discovered that my Half-Life source game has been sitting in perpetual download mode and every time I click it to see what's going one I get a "The Steam servers are currently too busy to handle your request. Please try again later"

    Anyone else seeing this issue.

BTW Steam just updated a patch for me the other day so I know there are no "connection" issues.

Not on my end. Just downloaded four (4) COD games yesterday (Sunday). I have been using a Washington DC server for a very long time without any problems. You may try another server connection in "Settings-->Downloads" Tab. And just in case; my "max pings/minute" is set at "Automatic(5000)".

Yeah that's the server I use, and as I said, I just had a patch download on my a couple of days ago so I know there are no connection issues. The only issue is the Half-Life game which I've had for ages so I'm a little confused as to why this suddenly popped up. And as I said, when I click the link, I get that stupid error

BTW I see it's not just me: Update won't download - Steam servers are too busy :: Half-Life: Source General Discussions

Haven't actually confirmed it myself but it seems you have to opt in for some beta for the game to download:
You have to opt in for the beta. Right click the game go to properties, go to betas tap and opt in then it will update.

What kind of BS it that!
    It's just weird.

That last patch gave me issues with opening steam but not downloading anything. Might be worth opening a ticket with them or possibly reinstalling it.

    Wild shot I know

Thanks but if you've read my post, the only issue it with Half-Life: Source.

Anyway contacting Steam's support and waiting for them to get back to you is like watching slow drying paint dry. And I have about as much faith in them as believing a 500 pound bolder can float in the middle of the Atlantic ocean.

I'm a big fan of Steam, but even I acknowledge their tech support lacks big time. Been there, done that

At any rate read the above post again.

    Thanks.

True however I doing a reinstall will allow you to force restart the download since steam likes to be smart and cache downloaded data so you can pause and resume and shutdown the machine without the loss of your current download. A reinstall should remove that and allow you to try again to see if their was a glitch in their system

I know how ya feel about tech support there give it time and they will eventually get back to you

Yeah, I've got time.... I'm still half way from 110.

And I wasn't trying to download the game. In fact I hadn't touched it in years. I just happen to look and notice the yellow font telling me something was downloading and when I looked I noticed if was Half-Life. A couple of days later I notice it was still "downloading" and that's when I discovered the issue.

Anyway I'll try deleting it and seeing if it'll download again, though the Steam Half-Life forum says that doesn't resolve it. As I linked to, it seems to be a big issue with the game and the Valve/Steam servers, which, as usual, Steam/Valve hasn't commented on it... despite pages of the same issue. Shocker

I was just wondering if anyone else here has seen the issue. That's all.

Will post my results after I try deleting and reinstalling.

    Thanks.

So I deleted (uninstalled) Half-Life: Source from my local drive and when go to redownload I get a message saying there are no Steam servers available for download...

Incidentally when I first tried to download Half-Life I was given a message saying it couldn't be done because it was using files from Half-Life Deathmatch. Once I uninstalled Deathmath I was able to uninstall Half-Life. However I now can't install Half-Life, but I can, and just did reinstall Half-Life Deathmatch: Source....

After installing Half-Life Deathmatch and trying to download Half-Life: Source I now get this...

This is definitely a Steam/Valve issue that needs to be resolved on their end

Apparently this has something to do with an update Steam did, and now the game is basically making you participate in the Half-Life: Source Beta program. In short, if you don't download the beta, the game doesn't work. Seems Valve screwed the pooch on this one.

In support of the Steam for Linux release we have made Half-Life: Source available on Linux and Mac OS X.

This beta involves significant changes for all platforms and your testing is appreciated, please report any bugs to our GitHub page.

Linux and OS X users can simply install the Half-Life: Source application to access the beta. You MUST also opt into the Beta version of Half-Life 2 when testing on Linux and OSX, you can do this by right clicking the game in your Library, choose properties and then go to the Beta tab. Select the SteamPipe beta to start testing.

For Windows users right click the game in your Library, choose properties and then go to the Beta tab. Select the SteamPipe beta to start testing. Under windows to opt out of testing simply deselect the beta option on this same page.
