Oh, right. I am running Norton Internet Security. I know it controls mine and his firewall, and I have checked all boxs to allow with anything relating to minecraft on both computers. I will post info about both computers soon.

1. Sever files are up to date.
2. Have just downloaded minecraft as it is.
3. There is no plugins.
4. We are playing together wirelessly with a wireless router using the option Open to Lan in MC, which also has internet as well.
5. Not sure about this one.
6. We are running W8 and W7.
7. One has 32bit the other has 64bit.

My specs:

Windows 7 Home Premium
Service Pack 1

TOSHIBA
Notebook
Intel Core i7
4GB of Ram
32bit OS
No touchscreen

Brothers specs:

Windows 8
Service Pack 1

TOSHIBA
Notebook
Intel Core i3
4GB of Ram
64bit OS
No touchscreen

Sorry for the slow reply, I've been away for a few days

I suspect it's because your brother is running a 32 bit OS. Basically, his Java can only use 2GB of his Ram, whereas your 64 bit installation can use all of yours. Minecraft is a huge game, and can be quite resource intensive.

The fact that only the 32 bit machine is having this issue speaks volumes.

Things you can try:

Your brother can try turning down his graphic settings (mainly draw distance!) as this will lower the amount of chunks that need be rendered in one go and thus lower memory usage.

Or, if he's got 64 bit installation media, he could upgrade to 64 bit Windows, as his license key would be valid for both versions (but thats an issue for a different thread.) You'd need to check Toshibas website to see whether they offer 64 bit drivers for his model though.

Yay! That seemed to fix the problem.
I think the new update also had fixed some bugs that I was experiencing too.

Thanks for your help!
