Directx 11 on Intel HD 3000.Crashing Dragon age 2

I would post this on the Dragon age 2 forums, but it hasn't been used over 11 months.

Anyways my problem is I installed Dragon age on my i3 computer. 4gb ram and has an Intel HD 3000 video card or something like that. When I start a new game ,the game crashes.I tried changing my settings. Turning off V-sync , turning down the graphics and even reinstalling. Nothing worked. I then picked the option to change to directx 9. Then the game works. No crashes nothing.

But the odd thing is I have old computer, that has an intel duo core 2 cpu and an intel series 4 family chipset. And on that laptop , the setting is kept on Directx 11 and it works. No crashes or nothing. But on my new laptop , it doesn't support Directx 11 for some reason.

Does anyone know what's going on? I don't mind playing on Directx 9 Just that the screen isn't in full screen.

    Thanks in advance

Your old laptop while having an older CPU might have a newer graphics adapter which supports DirectX11. The Intel HD 3000 supports up to DirectX 10.1 and has some partial support for DirectX11 which it doesn't advertise. DirectX support depends on system graphics.

Oh okay. Thanks. Was wondering why an old laptop could handle Directx11 while a laptop from 2011 could't. Anyways thank you. I guess I'll just use Directx 9

Did you download the hi-resolution texture pack for Dragon Age 2? Because that's the only way the game runs DX11 mode.

Anyway with your laptop, and the HD3000 (which is actually DX10.1), it'll choke your system. Personally if you're going to play DA2 on your laptop, I'd forgo (forget about) installing the texture pack. It's not going to do you good anyway, and your system doesn't support it.

    Requirements:
To get the most out of the high resolution texture pack, we recommend running the game with the DirectX 11 renderer (requires a DirectX 10 GPU and Windows Vista SP2 or Windows 7). We also recommend a video card with at least 1 GB of video memory.
Most of the benefits from the Hi-resolution textures will only be seen if you are able to run the game in DirectX 11.
