Dungeon Siege 2: Broken World - graphic issues

The game automatically chooses integrated graphics. Main Menu works fine, but during the gameplay every time I move the mouse, the cursor starts to blink. Well, I'd withstand that, but another problem is that the integrated graphics simply can't hold out, and the game often drops even below 10 fps.

When I change graphics used by game to GT 630M in nVidia CP, the game in overall works better, but the cursor's still blinking, additionally with a black square (20x20px?) around it. Did anyone have the same problem? I couldn't find any way to solve it.

It's an old game try to change the compatibility mode to Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Service Pack 3 maybe it'll help.

Right Click on the Game Icon and go to Properties, click on Compatibility tab then Check the "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and select Windows XP SP2 or SP3.

P.S. I loved Dungeon Siege Series.

    Thanks for replying.

Compatibility window doesn't seem to change anything. I've even tried to disable visual themes etc., but it didn't work. Any other ideas? Reinstalling doesn't help.

Yes, I mean, I have tried to run it with compatibility mode for various Windows versions, administrator mode, and other available options. It doesn't work.

hmmm try download the patch v2.2 and install it maybe it'll fix the problem if you're running game on v1.0

    here's the link:
Dungeon Siege II v2.2 patch - Free download and software reviews - CNET Download.com

there's another patch v2.3 but for now I could not find it anywhere as the game is quiet old so links are removed and support is over already.

Some of the older games do not like working within Win 7, some have work-arounds some other don't. What confuses me a bit is the fact that you mentioned the game chooses the onboard graphics? I am not a PC guru but I have never seen this in 20 yrs, the game does not have that capability, it will choose whatever graphics the system has... I could be wrong but I seriously doubt it.

Perhaps you should check in your Bios to see if your onboard is the primary card or if PCIe is, then you should go to the Nvidia Control Panel and make sure your PCIe card is selected as primary.

Another thing I would do is, get a hold of the newest Audio and Video Drivers, also download Ccleaner if you don't have it and save all those into a Temp folder/

Go to Control Panel/Programs and Features and uninstall Nvidia Drivers and PhysX drivers as well if you have them, do not restart. Then go to Device Manager and uninstall your Audio Drivers, do not restart. Third, uninstall your Game from Start/All Programs if at all possible, if not, from CP/P&F

Now restart and get into Safe Mode, once you are there, open up Ccleaner and do a thorough clean (it will be obvious once inside the app), run it as many times as you feel or until it shows 0 KBs removed. After that go ahead and clean your registry from any remnants of old drivers or installations, etc, etc. Again, run it as many times as it takes for it to not show any remnants anymore.

Restart again normally, get into windows and give it a few minutes, it will install generic drivers for your audio and video but it will not alert you of this (in case you didn't know). It may ask you to restart, go ahead and do so and once you are back on the desktop, open up the temp folder.

Right click on the new audio drivers and Run as Admin, do not restart, do the same with the Video drivers and restart. Once you are back, install the game via CD, steam or however you have it, right click but instead of Running it as admin, install with compatibility and let Windows choose what is best for it.

This may or may not work at all but, at the end of the day, you will have clean drivers and a clean registry to show for so it is not all a waste of time.

Oh yes, and +1 on the patches, sometimes it is better to download them and manually install them instead of doing the auto install... if it has this option

The game's version is 2.3 - i think that it's the latest update. Graphics drivers are also up to date, I've even reinstalled them lately, but nothing has changed.

http://imageshack.us/a/img801/1433/i5ic.jpg - it's screenshot of nVidia control panel. The game's automatic choice is integrated graphics. If I want it to use my GeForce I have to set it manually. None of these settings make the game work properly.

What I've noticed during googling, it is a rare problem and affects only (or especially) GeForce GT series (just like mine). I have posted on GeForce forums, but no one replied.

I'll keep trying to make it work properly, we'll see if anything happens ^_^

The 2.3 patch will be added automatically when you install Broken World

BTW - Broken World is an expansion to the original Dungeon Siege2
    - I take it that you have the original game installed also..??
