Old Games Graphics Problems (Enemy Territory)

    Hi everyone,

I bought myself a new Macbook Pro for work, but couldn't resist to also make a windows 7 partition for gaming using Boot camp.

I used to play Enemy Territory a lot, so I figured that should run well on the laptop. I installed it, but now, whenever I open it, I can only see about half of the screen. Although my display runs on a huge resolution (appr. 2600x1200). If I lower the resolution I can see even less of the screen.

    My specs are:
Intel HD 4000 Graphics Card (I know, pretty crappy)
    Windows 7 SP1 Enterprise 64bit
    8GB RAM
    2,6 GHz i5
    256GB SSD

I tried another old game (Bully) and had the same problem. So, maybe it's a problem with Direct X? I ran Heroes of Might and Magic 3 and that runs fine.. Also League of Legends runs fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)
    Best,
    Basti

Not necessarily a DirectX (DX) problem; nonetheless you should update your DX files here - Download DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer from Official Microsoft Download Center

Once that's done, go back and try manually configuring the game's resolution in the game's settings. You also need to make sure the game supports the resolution you choose. Ex: if the game can only run at 1280 x 1024, there's no need trying 1920 x 1080.

Also, how old is this game? And is it compatible with Windows 7? See step# 16 here - Tips on Troubleshooting Game Issues

    Let us know.

I am betting that after you install Win 7 you did not update your audio and video drivers so you are running on Generic Drivers. That Intel HD4000 series is good for work and youtube type stuff but, the game is old enough where you could probably push it enough with it... I am betting once you install newer drivers, you'll be fine.

If after installing the new drivers, your problem doesn't go away, try installing the game in compatibility mode.

Hi guys, Thanks for the replies.

I did all of the above, but nothing worked. In fact, Enemy Territory (about 10 years old) runs on my "win 7 home edition" aspire one (although not very well), so it's probably more an issue with my machine than with win 7 directly..

If you have any more ideas it would be awesome.
