It does work fine under 7 x64.
Have you tried installing the game via compatability mode?
Browse the disc for the setup.exe and r/click and choose:
Run Compatability Mode Vista SP1 AND Check Run as Administrator.
I would also install to a directory other than Program Files or Program Files (x86)
C:\Games\Fallout 3 for example or however you prefer.
It installed and runs fine for me in w7 64bit- I did not have to use compatibility mode either. I did have to tweak the game to work with my multi core cpu.. It is installed where it wants it too x86..
Works great for me- other than normal glitchy beth stuff..
i did have loads of probs with fo3 goty, almost gave up on it.
then i did what wishmaster said and installed it on the c:\games, after that it was ok but i found the link below which when i tried the game worked a treat.
if anyone else with the live version i can recommend that you try the latest version of live which is available from the following.update latest version of Games for Windows Live:

i got this from a bethesda forum (i hope its ok to repeat here) an it worked a absolute treat
good luck

so i tried installing FO 3 using compat mode Vista and as admin to win 7 64 bit..I just did the easy install, not custom, so it went to the program files folder...I then patched to 1 point 7 and got the 5360 dll message stated earlier in this thread..
Any tips? Do I custom install it a second time and create a games folder for it? I have DX 11, do I let it install DX or no? Do I run setup exe as administrator and install it with compat mode set again to Vista? Do I run the game without patching it?
Sorry, love Fallout, and just want to see if I can get it to work..
I have a Dell XPS 8300, 8 GB RAM, 2.80 processor, ATI 5700
ok rogbrez i too love fo3, even to some extent i prefer it to fo nv, the music in fo3 is spot on, but i digress.
i think, no i know the 5360 error is relevant to 'live' version, the following link will update you version of 'live' http://forums.bethso...st__p__15230022
once you do that reinstall fo3 to c:\games folder which you will have to do i think via custom install, after that you'll need to go into fo3 folder to start game on my computer it never showed up anywhere even in games option.
try that and you should be ok, i never tried in compatible mode, i never changed dx, i think i ran video option at medium but that was all.
good luck, let e know how it goes
I'll give it a try...
so I download this file, reinstall the game, then place that file into the Fallout folder I created with a custom install?
Do I also apply the 1.7 patch too?
Still run the install as admin and also compat mode Vista?
Just want to make sure I do it right lol!
Also wondered if you need to do this install in a certain way, certain order, to get it to work..
like install custom (no DX) to your created FO folder, installing as admin and compat mode to Vista, then apply the downloaded dll file and then the patch...
then launch each time via fallout exe rather than autoplay on the cd?
Jeez, I hope 2010-2011 games just install and play without any hoops like these older games!
New Vegas is hoopless oddly enough...
