    Games and resolution

hi guys, im curious about my games and it's resolution. Example. my desktop's native resolution is 1680x1050. I play cs 1.6 and i need its resolution at 1024x768 so i can have higher refresh rates. However when i run CS at 1024x768, my monitors settings say im still at 1680x1050. so i cant benefit from higher refresh rates. The game itself does look like it is 1024x768 but my monitor is saying its not. also, i just upgraded from winxp32bit about 10 hours ago and it wasn't like that. Im curious if windows forces its native resolution on everything.

I have the same problem myself with some games. I have found that some of thus games have in their Video option where you can change their refresh rate, in which case I set the refresh to that of my desktop which is 1024x768 @75 Hz. Now if this is not the case for your game I found that I can go into the game config file and set it to 75hz, and if this fails I read of one of the other post (if you have an Nvidia video card), You can go into advance option and set it to use Nvidia Scaling, and the problem should be fixed. (Haven't tried that one yet, I will when I get home from work.) Hope all this helps, and have a good game.
