    Bioshock finally working

after lots of trial and error, i finally managed to get Bioshock running in 7000 32bit. i had to run the installer in Vista compatibility, otherwise it got confused by DX11. then i actually had to install DX9 from the DVD (!) otherwise i just got a blank screen. finally, i had to run the game in XP compatibility mode, otherwise i got no sound during the game.

so now it works, but i often get artifacts on the screen during play which i never saw on XP

    thanks for sharing garbanzo.....

visually Bioshock has no rival, but the gameplay never really gripped me.....

have you tried Dead Space? it's everything Bioshock should have been. the funky camera angle takes some getting used to, but otherwise it's great. it definitely rivals Bioshock in terms of visuals - i often have to stop running to just look around in amazement. gameplay is similar - meelee weapons on one hand, and special powers on the other - but its pace is better, and it somehow just works cleaner.

it's hella scary though. i play it in the dark with my super-fancy Sennheiser headphones on and the sound cranked way up. what a thrill!

just making my way through it now

it is AMAZING, graphically & for what it does to ya mentally, the way they setup the in game camera angles takes some getting used to as its quite limited, but it certainly makes you wanna check whats behind quite a bit...lol

the radar could have been better though, i find myself lost a lot of the time.......

yeah the map is pretty useless, it's sort of a pseudo-3D render that is just impossible to follow.

maybe you know this, but if you hold CTRL, you project a blue beam on the floor that shows you where to go to complete the next objective. i use that instead of the map most of the time. i just check the map if i see an unlocked door that the beam doesn't lead me in to - i check to see where it goes before i venture in and get ripped in half :)

i'm only on chapter 2, i can't play for too long at once, otherwise i just get too wound-up. it's an intense game!

nah, it's got like 11 levels. i expect it will take at least 8 hours playing at a reasonable speed, and more if you take your time. plus once you play through once, you can start again with your current weapons and suit. the difficulty doesn't change, but you get a chance to upgrade further and try new weapons, so a second playthrough could be worthwhile.

Dead Space is one hell of a game lol took me 13 hours on the xbox to complete. lol
But once complete i got 500000 quid for weapons and a ultra sick suit lol, played again and was amazed how much i had forgotten how to do lol, so it was like playing it all over again, just harder thats all, cos i had it on impossible settings

I've been meaning to play dead space once I've finished other games. i'd just finished fallout 3 and then the anchorage expansion was released...

    problems

i have the steam version of bioshock and am running build 7000 of windows 7 but can't get the sound to work. Under audio options it just says everything is at 0 but won't let me change it. Already tried compatibility mode and im using integrated sound card on asus p6t board with updated drivers. Any ideas on how to fix this?
