Random LAG( fps drops) then it fixes it self.

Okay this happens on just about every FPS game i've played since i've installed windows. Everything will be running fine and then it will randomly drop the fps heavily and it will do this for a min or 2 and then it will fix it self. I did have this issue at first i remember when i installed Win XP x64 but i remember i fixed it but don't remember how. Does anyone know of the issue i am talking about?

    My system.

    amd dual core X2 4200+ 2.2ghz
    2 gig ddr memory
    asus a8n-sli deluxe
    8800GT 512 MB

I am not sure if this update will work on Win7. But I recall the AMD Dual-Core Optimizer fixing similar issues on xp/vista.

It's quite possible that it's the pagefile memory swapping that is periodically slowing you down.

It could also be background Windows services like the Windows Search Index, prefetch etc

Do you have any A/V installed and running?

try add a game to avast exclusion list and see if that particular game's performance improves.
