Battlefield 2142 Problem W/ W7 64 Bit

I have just done a fresh install of Windows 7 64bit. Was running Vista 32 bit until today. BF 2142 worked fine in Vista. Now when the game loads I can log in and make adjustments to "Control" and "Video" profiles, but when going to "Audio" game crashes and get message:

Tried not to adjust "audio" and started game on common server I used yesterday, game crashed again. Have done all updates on drivers and punkbuster. Any ideas?

Did you run the game as an administrator Run as Administrator and ran it in compatibility mode for Windows Vista Compatibility Mode

I have tried running in Admin in Vista SP2 compatability mode and same thing happens. As for the Audio, I haven't made any changes to the game. Every time I click on the tab to enter that screen, the game crashes with the message I originally posted.

Ok I think something got corrupt in the install. This is what I would try. One uninstall the game, reboot and install the latest sound drivers. Reboot again install BF2142 *do not do the autorun if you have the CD/DVD* go to the drive and right click the setup.exe and run as admin no other settings and remember to let the DX9 installer run threw, reboot and then install the latest patch.

The reinstall info is the place to start.
I have BF2142 installed and running without problem. In fact it runs very well for me on
Windows 7 x64.

(and make sure that if you disable the onboard sound in your bios--- provided you are using your Auzentech sound card. -- whichever you are using, make sure the "other" is disabled. Windows 7 seems pretty good at keeping the different sound "systems" separate..but this is a new OS and you never know......)

Thanks for the insite. However, after uninstalling BF and updating all drivers, then reinstalling BF in admin settings, I still have the same problem. It's quite aggrevating. Does anyone else have any other ideas?

Want you to check something. Go to,

C:\Users\Your Name\Documents\Battlefield 2142\Profiles

find the folder for your current profile and open the Audio.con file in Notepad, then post back all the settings that are there.

Ok will doing all those things here is one last thing to try. Since the settings are stored in a con file in your mydocs folder. I would delete that folder then start the game you will have to reset all your settings again but see if this works.
