    Windows 7 Backgammon

I'm wondering who the idiot was at Microsoft that changed the game.
While your playing and the other player leaves you automatically start playing with the computer and it's a hopeless game as the computer does nothing but hit. The game can go one for half an hour and if you resign or stop the game you loose. Eight out of ten games if your winning the other player resigns you loose unless you keep playing with the dumb computer which is a total useless player.
I'm not happy with the way this game was set up. The XP game was 100% better. Why did they destroy Backgammon again on Window's 7?
    Totally disgusted with Microsoft!

I have to agree with Ghegre. It is completely stupid what they've done to it. can't get a decent stat going. If at least the AI was decent then it might have been ok. Whoever came up with the idea to play an AI if one player leaves should quit his/her job. Bunch of idiots if you ask me

Yes, they absolute screwed it up. It was a good game before, now the dice seems fixed, and the computer player is a moron. If the other player leaves you should just be notified and given the option to look for another player.

So I've been playing the game for a while now. Even though Microsoft utterly messed it up, it's still a nice way to kill some time. I really wish Microsoft would look up once in a while and see what people are saying, yes i know those sailor moon cartoons are hard to put aside but come on... you guys are working!

Out of the 684 games that I have played (i had a lot of free time a few months back) I've won "43" games. And I can say with some certainty that out of that 43 at the very least 1/3's of it are winning against the amazingly bad AI. And the only reason I would continue a game with an AI is if I'm one point away from winning.

I know that stats really don't mean anything and there's no ranking or whatever, personally I really don't care about the stats but i'm trying to make a point here. We play this game to play against other people, not an AI. Sure it's a good idea to bring in an AI to take over to keep the game going, but did you guys have to make the AI this stupid? My 5 year old nephew plays better than that... The AI should either be beefed up to show some intelligence or it should be taken out of the game completely!

My new grudge with this game is the insanely long and useless "Nudge" button. It takes forever to become click-able. If someone doesn't want to play, are busy doing something else, or simply "forgot" they opened the game, I don't want to wait god knows how long just to "nudge" them... I play this game when I'm bored, i don't want to sit there looking at the screen praying for the other person to show some sign of life. Of course it's still pretty useless, if your opponent is not doing anything you can either wait and nudge them or start a new game. When they don't respond to the nudge he/she is kicked out and replaced yet again by the useless AI. In both cases it's a waste of time and either way you're gonna start a new game. Unless you enjoy playing against an AI with the intelligence near the mental capacity of a goat.

Of course I know I'm probably talking to a brick wall here but I'm hoping that the stars will align and someone will see this thread and actually do something about it.

The programmers have turned a nice game into a total FAIL game. I mean seriously if you put together a bunch of 1st or 2nd year programming students they'll probably do a better job than whoever programmed this thing. Then again we're talking about Microsoft here, everything they do is fail.

With Windows 7 you guys pulled yourself out of the hole you dug in Vista (sorta), but I guess your failure at life doesn't go away over night. You guys are like that one monkey that wrote a children's book (not using Shakespeare cause that would be an insult to him). Even though by some miracle you wrote something somewhat intelligent, you are still... a monkey!

    Good day.

    Edit: Error Code: 0x80041009
Don't even wanna know what that is but I've been seeing it a lot. Either that or game going crazy and moving stuff around all crazy like. Then getting the error message "Bad data received" or some such.

what means match points or in german 'Spielpunkte'

    Hi,

I'm also not happy to loose games by ending the game instead of playing with the stupid computer.

But I have another question. Can anybody explain what means 'match points' in the middle of the right status box? The value is always '5' and does not change during the game. I would like to say, that I am a professional player. Is there a chance to let see the partner, how many points or winning games the others have reached totally?

    Thanks and Regards

The match points: 5 just means how many points you or the othe person needs to win the game, the total points. As for your score, and your opponents score, you can see it bottom right for you and top right for your opponent. For you it says: White/Brown (whatever your color is) under that it says pips which is the total sum of your roll amount you need to win the game. Under that it says score. It's the same for the other guy except it's on top right

In addition, the Programmer is a PUI (i.e. A Programmer Under the Influence). He probably finished several 12 packs (I believe it is 5 x 12 packs, totaling 60 cans of beer), then consumed some dope, while he was hallucinating, he finally wrote the script. I am not even talking about the “AI” which is a “all time dumb ”. I am talking about the dice outcome.
Dice outcome is supposed to be random. So, Mr. PUI, use the following command: “rand()”and nothing else. If you add a lot of check points and try to alter the flow of the game, you will mess it up big time as you did. There is no doubt that the outcome is arranged (according to how the game goes) and I am sick of it. So, I wasted 20 minutes to make Google search and read the posts, register to this site to be able to post my irritation.
In summary, I would like express my deepest appreciation to the programmer for making my coefficient of furiousness all time high and May God have mercy on his soul.

not only am i penalised should i choose to leave after a win (default seems to usually be - "you will forfeit"), but as others say, a person leaving the game is replaced by the computer... why bother ? i'd rather play a different human who might be a better player, or even not run away

and it's random - unlike yahoo! where i can choose to seek out worthy opponents, or even speak to them with a vocabulary greater than the 20 odd phrases i am allowed

really, m$, it is hard to stuff up an excellent ancient and time proven game, but you've succeeded against all expectation
