Get Free EA Games Each Month (on Origin)

EA's PC platform Origin has launched a promotion offering a free game, every month to each user. The scheme named “On the House” is available to anybody who registers before the 8th of May and installs the client software.
Currently Dead Space is available for download, the popular third-person survival horror game. The title will change each month so don't worry if this particular one is not for you. Although, once you click download, it's yours to keep with no strings attached.

Somehow, I suddenly dislike EA a tad bit less. Yes, you have to use Origin to get these games, but I mean come on, who doesn't love free games?!

Now, sorry for the double post, but I have to make a comment about my opinion on this whole thing, just in case some of you are skeptical or something.

I registered a new Origin account last night and proceeded to install Dead Space. I just launched it for the first time right now, so NO, there really is no catch here: one free EA published game each month.

I did have trouble verifying my email; I tried from IE and Opera, IE on my Windows Phone as well as the Origin client, and the confirmation mail just would NOT arrive to my inbox. I contacted support not ten minutes ago and they asked me to answer my security question, then verified my account on their end AND then proceeded to give me a coupon for a 15% discount on my next Origin purchase, which is just badass. The customer service agent was friendly and patient with my replies and we settled the whole thing in 5 minutes. The first time I tried contacting support I waited for 20 minutes and gave up, only to do it again right now and wait barely 5 minutes.

What I'm trying to say is that although I have almost always despised EA for the way they treat their developers, this might actually be a sign that they are finally starting to understand how NOT to treat their developers as well as gamers and are trying to make amends. If that means giving some older games away for free, it's pretty much a win-win situation: they get more users on Origin instead of Steam (even though they don't publish their games on Steam anyway so it's either retail or Origin) and we get free games.

I just hope this trend lasts, especially if it means getting free expansions and DLCs for previously offered games as well. I'm actually starting to dislike EA a bit less now.

Do they have a list of what games will they release or will it be random?

I haven't really looked into it, but I think it's going to be random i.e. only EA will know in advance which games will be offered (I assume they have to get into talks with these devs to get their permission or something), the only thing that I can be sure of (without any real proof though) is that all these free games are going to be at least 4+ years old - I can't really imagine EA screwing themselves over in sales just because they offer more recent games for free.

In any case, this is a good thing for those that missed buying and playing a game years ago and just forgot about them. Even if you're not really interested in them, it's free once you claim it and it's yours forever - no matter how bored and uninterested you might be towards the game, it's still right there for you to at least try - for free.

    Like I said, win/win.

People are not gonna give up Steam just because of free Origin games, but it's still a worthwhile campaign.

Hey guys, Battlefield 3 Standard Edition is now available for download until June 4.

    or

I don't know why BF3 is free for download while the other pre-BF3 games isn't. BF2 communities have already found a way to continue without Gamespy. Some are working on 1942 and 2142. I haven't heard yet if Bad Company 1&2 is being worked too.
