    Steam Re-Downloading Problem!!!

OK so what the hell is wrong with steam? I started downloading The Witcher 2 EE 2 days ago and due to my slow internet speed and regular black outs in my country I turn off my system whenever I'm away and I only get time to sit and use my PC at night times. My download was at 8.4GB and I always pause the download and exit steam properly and shutdown the system. Today when I turned on my download started all over from 0% and why is it doing this??? what is wrong with it?

    Hey boogie,

It is a bug that Steam has been having since 2010 (by the look of some threads on their website. I had a look around some of the threads on their website and this link seems to show the way to solve it: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_...2971-RUAG-7390

    Hope it helps you.

Yeah I've been getting the same issue for sometime as well. BTW the fix in the link BlackSparrow posted seems to only work for a short time, and then the issue resumes. I posted about this awhile ago, in the end I just got used to it

That said, are you talking about Witcher 2 trying to re-download, or Steam? Because those would be different issues. The constant Steam updates is a known issue, however you shouldn't be having game re-download issues.

    Let us know.

Good to hear. And even though I find the game play of Witcher 2 to be extremely frustrating at times, thus I never finished it, it really is a gorgeous game graphics wise.

Performance wise I had no issues, just find the game play hard at times, especially some of the bosses.

    Enjoy.

Yeah I agree and the character movement is very weird and I started with mouse and kb but switched to 360 controller still have issues but overall the game looks gorgeous!

Yeah I only game with keyboard and mouse but I've noted some games seem to be better supported by controller than KB & mouse - Dead Space 3 also comes to mind.

Getting back to Witcher 2... my point is the game play seems to be frustrating even with a controller. Many have complained that the game play is a bit too hard at times even on easy. Many use the word frustrating, especially when talking about the first boss (Kayran). This frustrated me to the point of putting the game away until later dropping it down to easy thus disabling certain combo moves just to beat it.

I finally beat it on easy but now I'm at another boss that's frustrating as well. The one point of the game play is to level up and use the right tools and combo moves for enemies or the game can be frustrating. This is also why there's mode where you can practice and get a grasp of many moves and tactics. In here you fight foes while being given advice on what tactics to use. If you have a good grasp there than the game should be a bit more enjoyable. In fact if you've never played Witcher I suggest you go through that combat tutorial as it makes like much more easier in knowing which tactics to use for a given situation.

But... I'm sure others will say its as easy as apple pie so... but there's no doubt this is a great looking game with lush forests and environments.

    Enjoy :)

A lot of games these days really are better with a controller. I'm surprised you have ended up with one yet by now Drew.

I haven't played the Witcher series, but it does sound like one of those games where "easy" is a typical games normal or hard. I haven't really come across one of those since the original Ninja Gaiden on the xbox. Those boss battles were controller throwing, fist shaking at tv battles... I never did get past the second boss battle on medium.

    There always are...

Patrick I've actually thought about getting a controller but just can't go there as I really like using a KB & mouse. As I've said, if I can't play the game on a PC I'll never buy it. Consequently that carries over to why should I buy a game controller when I have a mouse & KB. But yeah, more and more games are favoring game controllers over KB & mouse configurations. Sad

As for Witcher 2, the game looks fantastic, and the story sounds compelling, but the game play has been so frustrating that many, including me, never finished it. That even on easy it can be frustrating.

That said, I really would like to finish the game as it really is a graphically great looking game.
