Can I get my Windows games to work?

I have Win7 HP (for refurbished machines, if that matters), and when I try to play the installed games, I get the message "Executable for (insert name of game) has stopped working". It also says Windows is checking for a solution to the problem, but nothing comes up within a couple of minutes, which is when I lose patience...

I gather this is far from an unknown problem. Is there any way I can sort it out; download from somewhere, do it within what's already on the computer, or am I stuffed?

    Please help...

As for as I know there are a lot of reasons that it can`t work.
So a bit more specific information is welcome.
Do you have this with all installed games?
Do you also have the same problem when you install a new game?
Tried to re-install one of the games, and still get the same message?

Seems to me that the installation didn`t went well or got corrupted so re-installing a game should fix it.

Chess Titans works; nothing else does. On some I get the "Executable for.... has stopped working", on the others just a message that the game has stopped working.

I've just HAD to change from Windows XP, and nothing is where it should be.... How do I get to the install/uninstall programmes screen? If I uninstall them, where will I find them to reinstall them?

All I want is Hearts and Freecell working. I don't mind paying for them, but where can I get them from?

I have no plans to install any other games.

Opening with C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games; Tried with Freecell and Hearts; both said "Executable has stopped working"

SFC: found nothing wrong,no change after running it.

Turning off all the games, restarting, then ticking just Freecell and Hearts, then restarting; they're still ticked, but still say " "Executable has stopped working".

Thank you, Maxie, but still no joy.

This works for me on Windows 7 Home Premium and Pro.
Start Orb/ type Windows features and you will see Turn Windows Features on or off. Tick on it.
A page will come up and take a few seconds to load.
At the top will be Games. Expand it and you will see a list of games. Put check marks in the games you want.
Then go back to the Start Orb and type Games and you will see Games Explorer tick on it and you will see the new chosen game. Drag and drop the new added game to Desktop and you will get a Icon.

B****r swearing? Oh dear... I must admit the expletive in another thread was heartfelt, mind, but I take your point.

Fair enough, though, Julian; your forum, your rules.

Thanks Layback Bear, but that doesn't work.
