Upgrade Problems

My little brother purchased Windows 7 and did an upgrade install without doing a fresh install. He lost all of his old game installs and now isn't able to play any of them. We found the folders in windows.old, but none of the games are working. We are trying to get Crysis to work and looked in the registry for the serial key and we couldn't find it. Why couldn't windows have found a better way of doing the upgrade install?

Hi wakeboaderdave
Maybe your brother should have read exactly what Windows covers and what the user needs to take responsibility for before upgrading to a new OS????
Unfortunately he will need to reinstall all games that were previously installed, hopefully useless Windows would've saved the user data for these games, if not, a backup copy of this data will need to be restored.
The serial key for the game will be in the game's original case btw

I'm guessing your little brother did not upgrade to Windows 7 via the upgrade option. I had Vista on my system and I used the auto run while in Vista and chose upgrade, and had no problems. All my programs were carried over and are working fine. But to be on the safe side I made a back up image of my whole system first, for that just in case what if deal. Sorry you had so many problems. Hope all works out.
