Game performance loss after waking from sleep

Literally that. After waking it up from sleep, my Windows 7 rig seems to lose a lot of framerate in games. I have no idea what could be causing that, any ideas?

    System:

    Windows 7 Ultimate x64
    4970K @ 4.0GHz
    32GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600Mhz
    Z97X Gaming 3 mobo
    780GTX

    Where do I start here?

have you check your Nvidia CP, perhaps the Performace vs Quality is bunked? I have never like Hibernation or sleep mode but for different reasons but, perhaps if you disable those for a couple of days until you know for sure something else is the culprit?

    Thank you for the reply.

Disable what, exactly? There is no 'performance vs quality' setting that I can see.

I am on my htpc right now but when you open Nvidia Control Panel there is an option to change for more performance or more quality... check it out.

Disable Sleep or Hibernation or both for a couple of days to make sure that is the problem .

Just for craps and giggles, I would uninstall the video drivers, along with PhysX and install fresh version. Nope, perhaps not the answer but it can't hurt

Hibernation is disabled, this problem ONLY happens after waking from sleep. It's fine on a cold boot or reboot. And I did uninstall and reinstall totally clean and the problem is still there.

Curiously I ran the Hitman Absolution benchmark and every subsequent time I ran in a row, the FPS went lower.

There's something fundamentally breaking after sleep and I have no idea what.

I think what is happening is your computer wakes up from sleep but your graphics drivers don't. Now, I really don't know why that would happen, but that is what it sounds like.
