IMHO there are 3 big or main ones.

Steam is obviously the biggest and one most of us use the most.
Behind that is, EA Origin. Gets some hate, but its not that bad.

Then, to a lesser degree, Uplay for Ubisoft games. This one will be required for any Ubisoft game regardless if you buy it on Steam or directly from Ubi. Its always there. Sad, but it also not that troublesome once running. Personally I just disable the In game stuff and set it Offline.

These 3 are the ones you'll run into with nearly every PC game, which is why I say they are the 3 main ones.

If you are into some of the older games GOG.com is another option.

there's Green Man Gaming, Amazon does digital downloads now, so does Game (the shop), the point I suppose I'm making is that as long as companies jump on the bandwagon for Digital Downloads, the platforms are endless.

There's also Battle.net for Blizzard games like Diablo III and Starcraft.
