game won't launch from within games explorer

    Hello.

I've just installed a game (Gardenscapes) on my son's PC, and after I'd installed it I copied the .exe file and pasted it in the games explorer folder. For some reason, however, it will not launch when the icon is clicked upon, and the message 'Unable to init application. Please reinstall it' comes up. I wasn't expecting this to happen, as I've installed several other games using the same method, and they all launch without problems.

I know Gardenscapes is installed properly and that it runs without problems, because it can be launched from C./ Programmes (x86) or from the link in the Start Menu. But I'd like my son to be able locate and run the game easily from the games explorer folder.

I've looked at Rjck's thread on installing games (Games Explorer Folder - Add Games To), but it is very long and involved, and I get the impression that it is for more for gaining access to covers, ratings etc.

    Can someone help me?

Well the problem is you copied the executable instead of making a shortcut to the executable. Thats why the link in the start menu works, it is a shortcut to the executable.

Yes, but I did put other games into Games Explorer using the same method (which I'd found somewhere on the internet!), and they work.
Anyway, I've now copied the shortcut for Gardenscapes from the Start Menu, and the problem appears to be solved.
    Thanks for your input.

It is likely that the game was looking for other files in the same directory; many programs are set up that way. By moving it the game was no longer able to locate the files it needed. You should move programs around.
