You know how I know they're full of Sh*t? They could VERY EASILLY just have had 99% of people use the IW.Net method and have that default, and then made a second option thru the console etc to allow dedicated servers. It would be extremely easy to do.

But they don't want that, because they want content control. They want to be able to stop making maps so that people get bored and start asking for either a new DLC to make more money, or a new game so they make more money.

I just played MW2 and it worked just fine, very smoothly.
I wish my MW2 did the same...
My system is Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, Core 2 CPU, ATI X1950 XTX, 4 GBs memory, 24" HDMI monitor, etc, doesn't run MW2 well. While the video in itself plays just fine, the text comes out in small rectangle blocks with little color dots within the blocks. In another word, there's no way to adjust the resolution to 1920x1080, nor do I believe that it would make much of a difference for the text. The control area, where video, game controls, sound, etc located, is totally unreadable. As such, I cannot even change the keyboard settings. The picture in itself is fine, so was the video that started the single player campaign.

After clicking around couple of times, hit and miss basically, the training does start up. The picture is just fine, but I cannot move forward or backward, or shoot. MW 2 is pretty much useless as it is now. The same PC and OS plays MW1, L4D2 demo, and other games just fine.
Anyone have an idea why MW2 would garble the text in the control panel within the game?
    TIA...

The standard response would be to update drivers, and uninstall your old followed by a scan with Driver Sweeper in safe mode. It could be a glitch in the game though. Have you patched it to the newest version?

I do have the latest drivers and Steam hasn't found any update yet; here's how the image looks in training, note the text in red circles. The control panel is also attached.

Strange. I don't have any of those issues in MW2. It's been running near flawlessly for me in Win7 Pro x64.

Also, I know I'm in the minority, but I could really care less about online play due to the large amount of idiots out there that seem to ruin it for everybody. I prefer the single player missions anyway, but I can see how these latest changes would annoy others.

It could be a font problem. I'd contact the manufacturer.

Manufacturer as in Infinity Ward, or something else?

When the game starts up there's no issue with the font. I've tried different resolutions but the only thing changed is the color of the small rectangles and the colored dots within them.

haha. You are one of us and you don't even know it. That sentence alone is the REASON for dedicated servers.

Dedicated servers = different ruleset, usually a stricter one when it comes to random grenades tossing, cursing, being a D bag, etc.

Dedicated servers = admin that can kick for any reason. Reasons that IW.net and steam can't detect. There are ways of being an A-hole without cussing or hacking.

Dedicated servers = community of people. There are all types, so find one you like. This also means said community can immediately get rid of players they don't like or don't like their rules.

Even if leaning is pointless in MP, it still very important in SP since the cpu soldiers don't always aim at your head afaik, it was really useful in SP!! I'm really disappointed in activision for removing leaning.

I'd uninstall the game and reinstall it. It looks like you installed the game in the wrong language.

Also, back to the dedicated servers thing: I spent the weekend playing multiplayer, and not once did I have a bad time. I'm mediocre at the game, but it was fun. Whatever they're using to run the multiplayer works nearly perfectly, and it's very easy to get your friends into a game--you just start a lobby together.

And there's none of those server crashes you get with dedicated servers (yes, they happen to everyone at some point). When the host goes away, the game pauses for about 15 seconds while it finds a new host.
