To unite and complain about Inifinity Ward's bone headed idea of no leaning and no dedicated servers!

    Hi guys,

I've installed w7 x64 yesterday. I played SP under win xp x86 with no problems.

The thing is.... the game now has a lot of lag and runs horrible under w7.

I've installed all new drivers and have tried updating dx.

    Any oher ideas?

    Thanks!

Well, there are a few things that I can think of to check without knowing your normal FPS. Check to make sure you are seeing at least three bars for your connection in MP. Also verify that you turn Vsync off. Not sure how to do this with catalyst but in advanced 3D properties within Nvidia control panel you can force off Vsync. That caps your framerate to your native refresh rate. Did you verify the same video settings that were in XP? Check AA and ensure it isn't maxed out. That's a few generic things that I can think of. Big thing is to make sure you have the lastest drivers for your video card and that your settings are the same as XP. After that if you have the problem then I would look at CPU load/memory usage to see if you are having any issues there. CNTL+ALT+DEL and select task manager and see if there are any programs running that are sucking up alot of memory. Look at your CPU load w/o MW2 running to see if it is high. Mine cycles between 2-10% idle. Usually it's at 2%. 2GB is not much memory and should be upgraded. It'll put you out 20-40 bucks for the upgrade to 4 GB. I have a 22" Samsung and maintain about 70-80 FPS at 1600x1200. I keep AA and depth of field off. Depth of field is a personal preference and doesn't greatly affect FPS. Other than 4GB of RAM and a little higher processor my system is the same.

Have you updated your chipset drivers and gfx drivers? Please note: new gfx drivers are not always the best drivers depends on your card!! try going back a few versions!

Hope this helps & let us know how you get on

Your system specs indicate only 2 GB of system memory. You might want to add 2 more. Also, I assume you upgraded XP to 7, which means a clean install. If, however, you upgraded Vista in place then I would recommend redoing the upgrade as a clean install.

IMO, using a PC for gaming is about as irritating as using a cell phone as a computer. Each one has SO MANY pitfalls. Being an ex mechanic, I firmly believe in using the right tool for the job. For gaming, a console is light years ahead of PC gaming in terms of dedicated servers and hassle free installation and function of the games. A cell phone works better as a PHONE than all the other things people are using them for. I spent a few weeks with a BB Storm2 until I couldn't take all the frustration of frequent reboots, functions dying until I did battery pulls, failure to ring until battery pulls--between my wife and I, we owned 5 Storms and all had issues. Our LG "dumb" phones work flawlessly. There's only so many functions that any product can perform before it becomes unstable and/or underperforms many of the tasks it has been saddled with.

Best of my knowledge, you can't have a normal LAN party with MW2. You would have to be able to log into steam and then using IWNet make a private match inviting who you wanted to play. That's about as close as it gets.

Well. I think I kinda understand your analogy of PDA's. TBH I've tried MW2 on the 360 and I have it on PC. i prefer the PC. I haven't had many issues with games at all. The only issue with MW2 that I have had is IWnet which makes the PC version like a console in terms of multiplayer matching. Plus what happens when the next gen games come out and the 360 or the PS3 need to be replaced. Now you have to spend 500+ bucks for the new system. Me I just spend a couple hundred to upgrade my video card so the game can be ran. Plus I don't have to play for a extra montly fee for XBox live or the 20 bucks for every game upgrade. Plus I alt-tab while waiting for the match to start, check email, facebook or whatever. Good luck doing that efficiently on a console. They still have a ways to go IMO. The funny thing is looking at trends, all consoles soon be HTPC's with gaming capability.

I don't pay a dime to play on PSN, unlike the XBOX users who have to pay for XBOX-LIVE. I've already had my PS3 for 2 years and expect it will be good for another couple of years, so I'm not too concerned about the $400 I paid for it (I got 5 free Blu Ray movies with it)
