Half Life 2 and Counter Strike not working

Okay, so I did look around a bit before I started this thread, and I haven't seen anyone else with the same problem yet so I'm starting the thread.

I downloaded Trackmania, Audiosurf, Portal and Garry's Mod fine, and run them perfectly on my new HP laptop. I bought the laptop with Windows 7 on it, so it wasn't an upgraded computer (Just in case that might be a contributing factor).

But when I went to launch Counter Strike: Source and Half Life 2, it comes up with this:

I'm wondering if this is a problem with installation or downloading, or Windows 7 compatibility period.

I would delete the files and redownload them, also make sure you install DX9 when the installer ask you that.

Follow the steps in the link above. If that does not work I would try exiting Steam, deleting the file ClientRegistry.blob from your Steam folder and starting Steam back up.

Hey, SpadTheBad, I just installed Win7 and encountered this problem. What I did to fix it was, I went to File -> Settings in Steam, and then unchecked "enable Steam Community In-Game" under the "In-Game" Tab. It fixed that problem for me, hopefully for you too.

That is exactly what the site I linked to in the post above says to do.
