Games lagging , then pc restarts..

My pc:

Processor:I5-3350P
Gpu:Gtx 650
Ram:6GB
HDD:1TB

(I know , pretty old pc)

So , I have been dealing with this problem the past few weeks . I run the game(200-220 fps) , it drops (90-100 fps) , it drops even more (40 fps) , then even MORE (30 fps), then another drop (10-20 fps) and then, the pc restarts (but with a longer wait period , it restarts slower than regular)

I was googling since then , so I decided to make my own post after all this time and solve this once and forever.

Update:It happens on ANY game. Even in Half-Life 1 :| , and yes , I tried reinstalling Windows (like 4 times now)

First thing that came to my mind was :heat.
But heat would usually cause stuttering ,not major fps drops you're having. But anyway I think you should check your temps while you're in-game.

Also check CPU and GPU usage also while you're in-game.
I don't want to scare you or anything, but power supply might be giving up,it can't deliver power as it used to which can cause major FPS drops.
How long has it passed from your last CPU thermal paste replacement or whole system cleaning?

And also, believe me,that's not an old computer, check mine system specs

Umm . Well , last pc clean was like 1 week ago. (It was very dusty) but still , it didn't fix the thing.

So let me explain you. Back in the days where my pc was working fine , it was very hot in the top face ..
By the time when the problem started it started being cold . So it's the psu or what?

It could be also RAM,you can check memory problems.
If you could try another power supply just to make sure that'd be great.

Also what is your power supply?

Minimum power requirement for GTX 650 is 400 Watts and 1 6-pin connector, but I would suggest you to go with more watts,500 Watts power supply (good quality) should be more than enough. But don't buy new power supply until we locate source of the problem.

I did what you told me (analyse power usage) . The RAM was fine, The CPU was fine.

Good job mate!Few things are left now:
Graphics card might be failing - likely
Power supply might be failing - likely
Hard disk bad has bad sectors - unlikely / should not cause this problem

Well I wish you best of luck.Just don't buy too powerfully graphics card because it might be too "heavy" for your power supply or your CPU might become bottleneck.
