COD Modern Warfare 2 Blank Screen

    Hi,

When I start COD Modern Warefare 2, I get a blank screen. I can hear sound and mouse over sounds as I move the mouse, but no display. I used to have this problem with Counter Stike Source but was able to use the -autoconfig option and then turn off HDR (High Dynamic Range, in video advanced settings) and then it worked fine. I also use NVIDIA 3D glasses but I dont think they are causing the issue.

PS...I have tried updating device drivers, using steam switches -autoconfig -window to no avail.

    Thanks.

My Modern Warfare 2 freezes at startup. But the fix to my problem is to wait 3-4 minutes then it magically unfreezes. Try that out, might work for you.

I can not find a DTX 260 but, even for Notebooks but I know they have drivers for the GTX 260. Also, you don't state whether you have the 32 or 64 bits OS... hard to help when the post for help is very vague.

If you have a notebook computer and win 7 32 bit version use the follwing drivers...
    NVIDIA DRIVERS 186.81 WHQL

If you have a notebook computer and win 7 64 bit version use the follwing drivers...
    NVIDIA DRIVERS 186.81 WHQL

If you have a Desktop and you have a GTX 260 and NOT a DTX 260, use the following drivers for 32 bit version...
    NVIDIA DRIVERS 195.62 WHQL

If you have a Desktop and you have a GTX 260 and NOT a DTX 260, use the following drivers for 64 bit version...
    NVIDIA DRIVERS 195.62 WHQL

Have you uninstalled the installed drivers before installing the new one? What about the PhysX drivers, did you uninstalled this as well?

When you install the drivers, do you do so with Higher Privileges? (Right Click on file and "Run as Administrator?")

I have found that uninstalling both the driver and physX helps me tremendously.

I posted this before on another post and another forum but it may help... it is ment for XP but it works here as well.
Try manually uninstalling the driver by using the following procedure:

    1. Control Panel=>Windows Update=>Change Settings=>"Download updates but let me choose whether to install them".
    2. Download the latest driver from the nvidia website. Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers
    3. Go to Device Manager, select your display adaptor, and uninstall it, choose to also delete drivers when prompted.
    4. Reboot computer into safe mode by pressing f8 when the computer boots, when prompted to install new display driver choose "never install a driver for this device"
    5. Navigate to c:\windows\system32\drivers\ and rename the file nvlddmkm.sys to nvlddmkm_old.sys. Take note of the date of this file
    6. Navigate to c:\windows\system32 and rename any other file of the same date as nvlddmkm.sys which begins with the letters 'nv'
    **ADDED FOR CLARITY***
    For examples:
    nvcplui.exe become nvcplui_old.exe
    nvd3dumx.dll becomes nvd3dumx_old.exe
etc..etc..etc..Repeat for all files with the same date as the file you found in step 5, they begin with the letters 'nv'
If it is too tedious to rename all the files, you can simply delete them, or move them to a different folder.
    *********************
    6a. For 64bit Vista, repeat step 6 in c:\windows\sysWOW64
    7. Reboot to normal Windows, if prompted again to install a driver choose "never install a driver for this device.
    8. Install the driver which you downloaded from the nvidia website.
    Good Luck

Sorry about the typo...I do indeed have a GTX (not a DTX). I am also running windows 7 32 bit. I updated my specs with this info. I have tediously unistalled my nvidia driver as well as the physix 3d driver. It was a pain getting them to work again. I had a similar issue running counter strike souce. I had to go into it windowed mode using -autoconfig -window in the startup options. I then figured out that HDR (High Dynamic Range) needed to be turned off as that was the problem. Hope this helps.

    Thanks

Run driver sweeper in safe mode after uninstalling your old drivers. It does what an earlier post details. Then install the newest drivers.
