Win 7 forcing 640x480 res on older games (NFS:U, NFS:MW)

    Hi there.

I have this issue where Windows 7 is forcing a low resolution on those two older games I am trying to run.

The resolution stays at 640x480 no matter if I change it in game or by a hi res patch. I run it with compatibility and without (640x480 is un-ticked in compatibility tab).

I am not looking for stretching the aspect ratio to match a wide screen with 640x480, but to be able to change the resolution (even to 800x600).

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Edit: Just to add that even after patching or changing the res in game to a different one the resolution persists on 640x480, ignoring what the game setting is currently set to- game shows its running at higher res but its not)

    Thank you RoasterMen.

Is this information required so access my problem?

I feel like its somewhat of a win7 glitch rather than hardware issue... I had successfully ran much older games on 7 in high res (with patches and without) so I feel like i just need to manually disable the compatibility mode or whatever is causing the problem here. to be honest I can't find the solution using all mighty google and never seen it happen before.

royroy I will try to explain.

Your don't have to install your system specs as requested.
It's not a forum rule or anything like that. Without the specs
it will limit the ability of other members to give guidance.

You can't fix a car if you don't know what kind of car it is.

So I would suggest following RoasterMen request and fill in your system specs.

well good thing a computer it's not a car and you are not a mechanic...

there is nothing more pointless than some dumb down analogy. I found it personally insulting as you assume I am not intellectually inclined to understand the real explanation for this request.

I still stand by my opinion that this request was simply unnecessary and just gave me impression that none of you even read my post to begin with. Another, more general, forum pointed me in the right direction and I was able to solve my problem.

so you guys can continue on fixing cars here.
