You know, I used to play it on my old XP machine. I've got the CD somewhere around here, and I'll probably start playing it again!

    Thanks for reminding me!

Hi, I found your article when I googled something about Freelancer (...xD) Actually, does this wiki article help? A Freelancer Game Fansite - Mods Downloads Ships Guides :: The Starport :: Wiki - Getting online in Windows Vista/7 If not, then ask @ A Freelancer Game Fansite - Mods Downloads Ships Guides :: The Starport :: Freelancer Community News - Freelancer Community Network Bar (FLCNB) Update - News, it is simple THE freelancer fansite. It is quite likely that someone can help you there.

It just works for me... I notice in your system specs you are still using build 7100. I can confirm that it works fine on the RTM (7600) the only "bug" as such was The installer had to be ran as Administrator.

If on the other hand, the issue is Mods, im assuming that your using FLMM? That needs to be ran as Admin too, as it doesnt ask for permission from UAC I suspect this is where your problems lie.

I have been trying to get Freelancer working for months on Windows 7x64.

2 days ago i finally got it working

Install this: Discovery Freelancer v4.85: Reunion (installed the update when asked)
You will also need the mod manager: Freelancer Mod Manager 1.31 (this is the best version)

Using this method I do not need to use 'Compatibility Settings' or 'Run as Administrator'.
You also get some servers to play online .... nice seeing as how Microsoft have removed all of their Freelancer ones - selfish *****s

Also whilst trying to get it working, I may have upgraded to the 1.2 patch as well as the unofficial 1.4 patch, and although i own the CD, i have installed a No CD patch (I hate it when cd's spin up when you want to play a game). It doesn't affect your online play as the serial is installed from the cd when you install the game!

    Hope that helps

Does it say something like... 'Cannot find dx5 input.dll'. If it is a missing dll file then all you have to do is google it, download it from DLL Files for free download and paste it where it tells you.

But of course your error could be anything couldn't it! Please post it here as without it we cannot help you

That's weird, I played it a coupla months back on my Win7 64 laptop, no problems. Sounds like a DirectX issue though, you should try what scoutfu recommended. Thing is, I don't recall having to do that - but I game a lot on this machine so probably already had the necessary files.

    Freelancer Mod

    Hey,

I've been playing freelancer through a mod provided by the server Hyperneon Cluster.

To get freelancer to work with windows 7, you must switch UAC off, before trying to install most Freelancer Mods. UAC interferes with the normal operation of the Mod Manager and can even prevent a manual installation from working.

Hopefully this solves some problems. Come play freelancer through the Hyperneon Cluster server. I'm having heaps of fun with this mod.

    The link is:

    Hyperneon Cluster Space Adventure Game

    Cheers

OK freelancer and other old game fans. To play Freelancer on my windows 7 64-bit system with a slower 2.2G Celeron Processor and as for directX I always download the very latest version of it, with a series 4 chipset integrated graphics card. I first have User Account Control (UAC) and windows firewall and all other windows security stuff set to where it never boots in msconfig.exe . The next step is simple, and works for freelancer, doom 3, and many other programs that were made to run on 32 bit. Run taskmgr.exe, personaly I always have a shortcut on my desktop for this and msconfig. in taskmgr (task manager) switch to the processes TAB. Next find your freelancer chortcut and open freelancer. You will see two programs begin running in the processes list in taskmgr, one is freelancer.exe and the other is rundll32.exe.

Now on my system nothing happends from this point on except rundll32.exe is taking up almost all the processing power, however if I select the freelancer.exe in the processes list so that it remains highlited, then right click the shortcut on the desktop agian and select run on the little pop up menu, another freelancer.exe will start running in the processes list on taskmgr. Now I right click the still highlited freelancer.exe in the list and select 'End Task', then do the same for rundll32.exe, which is trying to use 90 to 100% of the processor because its frozen up. And presto the second freelancer.exe is running smoothly, without the need for rundll32. Why this program was included on a 64bit system I'll never know, it doesn't do anything accept use up to much processing power. I would delete it but I dont think I'd ever get the 32 bit programs to boot at all without it. :)
