Wolfenstein 2009 Hi
I just built my first computer. I had a 3 yr old Dell that crapped out, so I went with a budget build. It's nice to know I can now upgrade. The MB is a gigabyte 785g, so it has the radeon HD 4200 video card built in. I have Wolfenstein 2009 and it plays choppy. Is there anything I can do for the time being as far as settings to help? I plan on purchasing a video card after X-mas.
Thanks and GREAT site. | My System Specs |

Hello.
With your specs, the game should play awesome for you. It does for me.
Make sure you have the latest video and chipset drivers installed. Visit ATI's site and Gigabyte's. If you need further help, type system information in the start menu search box. Hit enter. On the screen that pops up, ctrl+s.
Rar or zip the saved file and attach to a post using the paperclip. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number self built OS 7600.20510 x86 CPU P4 550 3.4 GHz HT running at 3.5 GHz Motherboard MSI PM8M3-V (MS-7211 v1.x) Micro-ATX mainboard Memory OCZ 2 GB(2x1GB) DDR400mHz running @ 414 mHz Graphics Card HIS Radeon HD 3850 IceQ 3 Turbo HDMI Dual DL-DVI AGP Sound Card MOTU Traveler firewire studio interface 192 kHz 24 bit Monitor(s) Displays 22" widescreen Acer X223W LCD, 17" Compaq P75 CRT Screen Resolution 1680x1050 and 1280x1024 Keyboard Logitch Classical Keyboard 200 Mouse Logitech Mediaplay cordless PSU 350W generic Case Cybertronpc, it glows blue Cooling stock cpu fan, Ice-Q 3 gpu and system, many case fans Hard Drives SATA I x2 WD, 400 GB and 120 GB, SATA 2 WD Caviar Black 1 TB Internet Speed 1792/448 kbits/sec Other Info SATA II PCI fake RAID adapter, 1 GB Readyboost, original ATI Remote Wonder (even works with WMC perfectly), Logitech Rumblepad 2 game controller x2 |

Go to the start menu and type services.msc, hit enter.
Disable AMD External Events Utility
Disable Offline files (unless you actually know what it is AND use it)
Disable Windows Search service (everyone in the "know" does this)
The Lavasoft Ad-Aware might be contributing to poor game performance so you could uninstall that as a test. Especially because you're also running Microsoft Antimalware Service. Running both is not good. In this case, also disable Windows Defender service. (You only should use one.)
Like I said though, visit ATI's site and download the latest driver for the video card. You're running an older version 8.641 when latest is 8.671 - use the device manager to install if you need to, to make sure all driver files are updated. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number self built OS 7600.20510 x86 CPU P4 550 3.4 GHz HT running at 3.5 GHz Motherboard MSI PM8M3-V (MS-7211 v1.x) Micro-ATX mainboard Memory OCZ 2 GB(2x1GB) DDR400mHz running @ 414 mHz Graphics Card HIS Radeon HD 3850 IceQ 3 Turbo HDMI Dual DL-DVI AGP Sound Card MOTU Traveler firewire studio interface 192 kHz 24 bit Monitor(s) Displays 22" widescreen Acer X223W LCD, 17" Compaq P75 CRT Screen Resolution 1680x1050 and 1280x1024 Keyboard Logitch Classical Keyboard 200 Mouse Logitech Mediaplay cordless PSU 350W generic Case Cybertronpc, it glows blue Cooling stock cpu fan, Ice-Q 3 gpu and system, many case fans Hard Drives SATA I x2 WD, 400 GB and 120 GB, SATA 2 WD Caviar Black 1 TB Internet Speed 1792/448 kbits/sec Other Info SATA II PCI fake RAID adapter, 1 GB Readyboost, original ATI Remote Wonder (even works with WMC perfectly), Logitech Rumblepad 2 game controller x2 |

Hey Torrent
That seemed to help, Thanks. It still seems a little choppy, but that could be the game I guess.
Thanks again Ed | My System Specs | | OS 7 CPU amd phenom II Motherboard gigabyte Memory 4 gig ddr2 |

On board graphics just dont cut it for alot of the latest games. When I made my current PC I used on board for 1 week until I could afford my current card. It couldn't even run Half Life 2 on low.
Having said that I don't know what the on board radeon chipset is like performance wise. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Me OS Windows 7 Home Premium x64 CPU AMD Bulldozer FX-8 8120 Black Edition @ 4GHz Motherboard Asus Crosshair V Formula 990FX Memory Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Graphics Card MSI nVidia Geforce GTX 670 OC 2048MB GDDR5 Sound Card Sound Blaster X-Fi 2 MB 2 Monitor(s) Displays Samsung SyncMaster SA350 22" LED HDMI Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Logitech G510 Mouse Microsoft Wireless 3000 PSU Corsair Professional Series Gold AX1200 (1200Watts) Case Antec 1200 Ultimate Gaming Case Hard Drives Seagate Barracuda SATA II 500GB 16MB Cache 7200.12 Internet Speed Upto 40Mb/s Fibre Optic Broadband |

Try to disable anything running in the background that you won't need while playing... ie: msn messengers, Adobe startup program, MS Office Startup Program, etc, etc. All this things use memory that may be available for gaming a bit better.
Also, how you update your drivers is very important... DO NOT install newer drivers over the old ones... corruption and/or other issues may result from it. You must first uninstall your old drivers (video & sound and/or video/sound/Monitor if you have a 64 bit OS), use a sweeper to get rid of any registry instances, re start and install newer drivers with elevated Admin Rights (right click on .exe file and "Run as Administrator") | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Built OS Vista x64 + Windows 7 x64 (Ultimate) CPU Intel Q9650 Motherboard EVGA 780i FTW Memory 8GBs Corsair Dominator 1066Mhz Graphics Card Asus GTX660 (2GBs) + MSI 9600GT (PhysX) Sound Card Onboard Realtek HD Monitor(s) Displays Acer AL2216W Screen Resolution 1680 x 1050 Keyboard Logitech G15 Mouse Logitech G9 PSU PC Cooling 750w Silencer Case Thermaltake Spedo Advance Cooling CM 8V Hard Drives WD VelociRaptor 300GB

The integrated 4200 easily can get 6.5+ on WEI ratings and that is by far enough to play Wolfenstein very well at 1680x1050 or even higher on full settings. Wolfenstein is not too graphic intense on video cards. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number self built OS 7600.20510 x86 CPU P4 550 3.4 GHz HT running at 3.5 GHz Motherboard MSI PM8M3-V (MS-7211 v1.x) Micro-ATX mainboard Memory OCZ 2 GB(2x1GB) DDR400mHz running @ 414 mHz Graphics Card HIS Radeon HD 3850 IceQ 3 Turbo HDMI Dual DL-DVI AGP Sound Card MOTU Traveler firewire studio interface 192 kHz 24 bit Monitor(s) Displays 22" widescreen Acer X223W LCD, 17" Compaq P75 CRT Screen Resolution 1680x1050 and 1280x1024 Keyboard Logitch Classical Keyboard 200 Mouse Logitech Mediaplay cordless PSU 350W generic Case Cybertronpc, it glows blue Cooling stock cpu fan, Ice-Q 3 gpu and system, many case fans Hard Drives SATA I x2 WD, 400 GB and 120 GB, SATA 2 WD Caviar Black 1 TB Internet Speed 1792/448 kbits/sec Other Info SATA II PCI fake RAID adapter, 1 GB Readyboost, original ATI Remote Wonder (even works with WMC perfectly), Logitech Rumblepad 2 game controller x2 |
