Call of Duty 1 problem please help

the only problem is the game is read only, making the game glitch up, and not allowing me to set wide screen settings. when i try to make it writable, nothing changes. is there any way to make it 100% writable and make it stay that way

Have you tried running it as Admin? Using compatibility mode?

It's been a while since I looked at COD1 but I don't think it supports widescreen. That game is old, I would be surprised if it did.

    Sorry Im not much help..

The easiest thing for me to try is to see if I can find a configuration file in the game folder, then I just change the resolution in there... Worked for me with Dungeon Siege 2 :)

the problem is the folder itself is read only, i want everytihng to be writable. but i cant change it at all, its dtuck on read only (with the box filled, not a checkmark) and i dont want to have to go though every file and see if i can chyange it or not. i have done so and many files seem to liked to other files, one may be unlocked only when another is unlocked. and looking for the sequence is annoying to say the least. infact my game has no config file anymore, as i have tried reinstalling it but since it is read only it cant even write the config file

Perhaps you should try installing it to a different directory. If you have more than one partition on the HDD, choose another one. Be sure to run the install as administrator, if that doesn't work, uninstall the game and try both "run as admin" and compatibility mode.

Since the game is pretty old, I'm not sure if it even works on x64.
Could it be that the file is simply hidden? Try to check the option to show hidden files, and also system files just in case. I seriously don't know what it could be... Do you have the latest graphics drivers installed?
