I have a friend still using build 7068 and he doesn't have issues with punkbuster playing COD4 or BF2, I believe EvenBalance has updated punkbuster with support for Windows 7

Windows 7 build 7229 32 bit & Build 7600 32bit

With build 7229 I can't play BF2/2142 again after installing the games well at least with BF2. Not going to waste my time installing 2142 if BF2 doesnt work. I was getting kick with API error 131136 ah well it's only a few months away until Windows 7 RTM is out.

Try to uninstall the service using the pbsvc.exe then run the pbsvc.exe as Administrator and install the service again. for me this worked with every build.

The servers you are playing on are enforcing the API checks, not your machine or your Windows 7 installation... I checked my mates machines and punk-buster doesn't kick him from any server especially for "Unknown API", If you can contact the game server administrators you might be able to convince them that the extra checks are not necessary and causing issues with Windows 7
