how to connect from PS3 to Windows7 Media Center

Yes, I was facing this nightmare for over a month wasting most of my weekends and evenings to figure out what the hell am I doing wrong because I was not able to connect to my 32bit windows7 but was able to connect to 64bit win7. And today morning some of my accidental clicks fixed everything... So, I thought I will post my accidental steps here and it might help some of you I believe:

    1. Go to your Homegroup
      1. Double click on the Network icon on your desktop --> then click on Homegroup link --> then click on the View homegroup settings link or
2. in the Control Panel under Network and Internet click on Choose homegroup and sharing options
    2. Click on the Leave the homegroup...
      1. on the popup click on the Leave the homegroup (remember this action will completely remove your sharing of Music, Photos, Videos etc.) and this step is intentional
    3. Go back to Homegroup settings either by following step 1.1 or 1.2 and enable you Homegroup by following the screen prompts
    4. Once the Homegroup is setup, go back to its settings
    5. On the "Change homegroup settings" screen if the Pictures, Music, Videos etc checkboxes are not checked then check them
      1. as you check them a message appears right above those checkboxes with yellow exclamation mark
      2. read it and wait until it disappears
      3. at this point your sharing must have been completed
      4. Check whether the "Steam my pictures, music, and...." checkbox under "Share media with devices" is checked.
        1. if not then check the checkbox (wait if the sharing message appears until it disappears again...)
        2. This might seems stupid to wait but be patient and wait... wait... and wait...
    6. believe me this is what i did in my part and it worked like a charm
    7. now my PS3 with 80GB sees it and connects it without any problems.
Not sure whether you need this but in my McAfee firewall I checked the "Microsoft Directory Server (MSFT DS) Port 445 option while I was going crazy with my Media Center settings and it is still checked. I haven't unchecked it so far and I am little hesitant to uncheck it at this point... :smileymad:

Hope, these steps finds you the way out of the nightmare of Windows7 to PS3 media sharing struggle.

    Good luck to you all,

    Vincent D'Souza
