Call of Duty 2 works on Windows 7

Hi, Im new to this forum and need some advice. I'm currently on Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit and want to upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit. Before I do so can someone tell me if COD 2 multiplayer (my favorite) or COD 4 moderne Warfare will work on W7? I keep on hearing all sorts of things and can't seem to get any knowlegable advice. I know COD2 is an old game but will it work?
    Thanks in advance.

I know that CoD 4 works both single player and multi player, play it all the time. I have COD2 but havn't tried it since I've got 7. You can always look at this Game Compatibility shows CoD2 working with 64 bit.

So it works only 64 bit? As I have 32 bit vista I think I can only upgrade to Window 7 32 bit. Is this correct?

If it works for x64, then it will work with x32.

As for the upgrade, then yes - a x32 version can only be upgraded to another x32 version.

To switch from x32 to x64 requires a fresh installation.

Thanks for your reply! Btw, would it be worth doing a fresh instalation from 32 to 64 bit or would it just be a pain?

With windows 7 a fresh install is pretty easy. Im never used Vista but Windows 7 Downloads all of your networking drivers such automatically. The only thing you really need to do is Video Drivers and install every program again.

imho a custom (clean) install is always a better option than an upgrade...just remember to back up any important data (game saves/profiles/documents etc.) and you will have a fresh new operating system to work with

the only drivers I needed after I did a clean install of W7 x64 were some sound and video drivers so you may want to download those before you install to save you some time

Yes, CoD2 works on Windows 7, but you can't install it like you did on XP: Open the DVD Drive in Explorer and double-click on setup(.exe).
When I played the game for my first time, it was a lot of lag, but later everything was like before.
I also had to start CoD2 in safe mode the first time, later you can change everything back.

Call of Duty on Windows 7

Thanks for your reply Tiek. I installed windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit a couple of weeks ago and it seems to work flawlessly for the time being. I must say I forgot how a computer should run since I replaced my old one (with XP - now with my daughter) last February with a new one from Dell with Vista. The new one with Vista used to crash several times a day - It was an absolute daily nightmare. Now every things works the way it should and faster, it's easier to find my files and it's stable. It's just a real shame I had to pay twice to get a good product!!! Microsoft should give a partial reimbursement to anyone who had purchased Vista in good faith within a year or less and were forced (in order to maintain there sanity) to upgrade to W7.

    cheers
