Permissions are set to "allow" for all except "full control" and "special permissions".
There is no "save" folder specific, but all cities are kept in \SC2K\Cities I can load a scenario from the initial menu. Those map files are kept in a separate folder. However, clicking either SAVE or LOAD causes the game to close. No errors shown in event viewer. |

The only solution found online so far is to run the DOS version of the game through DOSbox.

I still can't get this game to run and DOSbox isn't fulfilling my needs. I found this supposedly detailing how to remove the read-only attribute for the file-
My SimCity 2000 Special Edition kicks me out whenever I save or load. The problem is, the method described isn't doing anything. The attrib function through CMD does squat to the folder attributes. They're still read-only. |

Simcity 2000 on Windows 7
I stumbled across this thread using Google, because I was having the same issue as described here, i.e. Simcity 2000 crashes when loading / saving games on Windows 7.
I have created a patch and thought why not share it... The patch can be found in the attachment. |

I have created a patch for this problem. It can be found at http://www.crazycasta.net/classic_games/SIMCITY.patch. The patch tool can be found at .tSCc. // PC (dynacore). To use the patch, put both the patch tool and the SIMCITY.patch file in the SC2K directory, open a command prompt at that directory and run:
bspatch SIMCITY.exe SIMCITY_PATCHED.exe SIMCITY.patch The technical details if anyone is interested is that I added a tiny bit of assembly to disable the OFN_EXPLORER and OFN_ENABLEHOOK flags from the OPENFILENAME structure before the GetOpenFileNameA/GetSaveFileNameA calls. |

I just came across this thread and wanted to thank CrazyCasta for his/her efforts and ask what specific patch tool we are to download from .tSCc. // PC (dynacore)?

I assumed you could just telepathically read my mind
. Sorry, the direct link for the tool is http://sites.inka.de/tesla/download/bsdiff4.3-win32.zip . Which is the link that says: Zipped Win32-Executables (May 2007) size: 73.20 KB

SimCity launch - meltdown Right off the bat the game has a few cons; EA, Origin, DRM, no true single player/solo mode - no local saves. People who don't trust EA can purchase through Amazon, ok. Well you still need Origin, which means you must agree with their eula. Few seem surprised that EA botched another launch. 20+... |

SimCity on Windows 7 I have been a Sims 3 fan and player for the longest time. I have been noticing the game getting buggier and buggier by every update and it gets more frustrating to play each time. I am thinking about looking elsewhere for PC gaming entertainment. Does or has anybody played SimCity 4 or any SimCity... |

SimCity 2000 works on Windows 7! I thought that this might be worth noting. I have tried Sim City 2000 Special Edition (released around 1995) in Windows 7 Home Premium x64. It ran perfectly even without compatibility mode on. The only problem I had was to turn 256-color compatibility on because the animations do not work in an RGB... |
