    Simcity 2000 on W7 x64

Another game that will play but will not install due to a 16-bit installer. Unfortunately, manual install won't work with this game as the game requires registry entries.

I found a torrent file for the game that had been specifically hacked to work on 64-bit Windows, which was my only install option. It included a registry entry file that's needed.

If there's any interest I can re-zip and upload just this registry file with the instructions so you don't have to obtain the full bootleg copy.

You may wonder why even run SC2K when 3K has been out for years and Simcity 4 is also a bit old. Some people might like it betetr. I use it to edit new maps to play in SC3K.

Scratch that. The game closes to desktop whenever you try to load or save a map. Not even a crash, just a program close with no error. Google shows this is a problem others have with no way to fix.

READ the instructions with it. You WILL have to open the registry key in notepad to edit the install path before using this.

that's everything in the key. Still no idea why the game crashes when trying to save or load though. Compatibility mode is no help.

Have you tried giving permission to the save game folder?

Fallout 3 used to have an crash / freeze issue whenever the game attempted to write to the folder which was set to 'read only'

Checked the folder. Not the issue... the game crashes the second you click on either save or load. No dialog popup, just an instant shutdown.

What does the ACL for the save folder look like. I think SEB is on to something with that.
And there's no events in the event viewer about the crash?
