    general video game discussion thread.

So, just a general discussion thread for us guys who like shooting eachother in the face, and a healthy lack of respect for punkbuster!

Anyway, I understand the concept for bringing LIVE to windows, so you can use your 360 gamertag, and achievments etc.

But what games DO support it? I have Call of Duty 5 "games for windows" it says on the box.... wonderful. So I downloaded games for windows LIVE (why can't they just call it LIVE?) and from the looks of the dashboard, version 2.0, I only see about 6 games on the marketplace and demos. No Call of Duty 5, even though I've played it on my XboX 360, and now own it on PC. It states it aside from the "live" part on the box. I don't get it?

    Strange.

Anyway, enough about window..er, games LI- I mean, GAMES FOR WINDOWS LIVE, its just about games, for windows. With live, if you really must... I would, I mean, I tried, but... sheesh.

On a related brutal attack on defenceless planets and general genocide point: Who likes to lose at Sins of a Solar empire? Just kidding, I'm terrible, but I do enjoy a friendly comp stomp if thats your thing. Or if you like you could plow me over while I waste my time trying to get the Dark Armada to send more then 2 ships to support the BILLIONS OF CRYSTAL SPENT ON IT.

Speaking of RTS, I'm thinking of picking up the new warhammer, I see the reviews, and a few videos, hows it for staying power?

Oh, and one last thing, STALKER: Clear Sky, I noticed it at walmart for dirt cheap, might pick it up, I did enjoy STALKER SOC, except the game crushing, fun halting, fist shaking ANGRYMAN ANGRY SMASH KEYBOARD............................................

    bugs.

    So is it worth it?

(note: please do not shoot eachother in the face for real, thats just not cool and will land you in jail, or worse, if he has a larger gun and is behind you.)

I received a copy of Stalker Clear Sky with a new vid card I purchased. I was looking forward to playing it so I installed it and start it up. I get a popup telling me to "please insert original game disc" Ummm it already is in the drive. I proceed to download and install the latest patch and try again. Same thing, "please insert original game disc". OK if that's how it's going to be. I download and install a no dvd crack. The game now starts and locks up the computer at the Nvidia logo. that's as far as I got.
Screw this, uninstall, throw in garbage.
I'm glad I didn't spend a nickel on the piece of crap.

Thats too bad, STALKERS SOC was really fun, I didn't hit any bugs until I saved and left, I didn't get very far in that one either.

Ahh, the woes. I managed to play Stalker Clear Sky all the way to the Red Forrest and now it crashes every time. So I reinstalled it and got the "insert org DVD", so I put in the no CD, and still crashes.

Have tried lowering video, maxing video, sound, full screen, reinstalls, and will try "offical" video drivers next before calling it off. I have too much time invested in this game..

I usually run my games with the no-CD fixes, I have full retail games just do not like switching out discs. But when Win7 beta 7000 first came out I know I loaded the game with out the "insert DVD" issue so that must have developed somewhere in the updates, I have a new HD on the way and may reinstall Win7 for kicks to see if the game will see the DVD before updating Windows.

So, Stalker CS fun if it works but it may decide to crash. I have the game modded with the Redux 0.97 and this is where I think my crashes are coming from. As far as a clean install it should play with out serious issues on Win7, with the no-CD fix, and the patch, and a defrag,..

BTW, played it through to the end on Vista 64 with a couple of crashes but nothing serious after patch 1.5.05.

Yeah I was really disapointed when mine started crashing at the second "zone" I entered. I am really interested in Chyrnobyl, I have several docus on it, it's such an amazing and tragic place, and the that game captures its essence, I suppose thats because Russians programmed it, but it feels much more isolated and enigmatic then Fallout 3 did.

I'll grab Clear Sky, and hope it works for me.

    Hey angryman,

Just a quick update, I did a freash install of Win7 and ran Stalker Clear Sky prior to windows update and it does in fact have the "insert org DVD" issue.

So the only way I have figured out how to play the game is with a no cd fix.. And so far I can not find one for the latest patch 1.5.08 so I am stuck with the 1.5.05 patch for now. Clear Sky is one of those games that could have been great if not for the bugs!

Think I will give up on it for now, too much time trying to get the Redux mod to work. It seemed to work on other mods though.. Anyway I am just venting cause I can not get my saved modded game back...

    Have fun!
